The Secret Lives of Men
ABC: Wednesday at 9:30pm (Half Hour Sitcom)

Premise

The Secret Lives of Men features the misadventures (and golf games) of three divorced men: Phil, Andy, and Mike

An upscale version of Men Behaving Badly, the short-lived FOX series Misery Loves Company

Familiar Faces

Peter Gallagher, Sofia Milos (Caroline in the City)

Our Take

This program has an excellent time slot after Drew Carey and the fate of Newsradio, its competition on NBC, is unclear due to the tragic loss of Phil Hartman

Expect to Hear

Mike: “Life is a candle in an open door”

Phil: “What are you, Neil Diamond?”

Maggie Winters
CBS: Wednesday at 8:30pm (Half Hour Sitcom)

Premise

Maggie Winters was the success story of the town.  After graduation, she went to the big city and married a successful businessman.  Unfortunately, the marriage did not last and Maggie finds herself back in her home town starting over

The initial premise of The Mary Tyler Moore Show was about Mary starting over after breaking off a long term relationship, the short-lived series Down Home also involved a woman moving from New York back home (albeit for different reasons)

Familiar Faces

Faith Ford (Murphy Brown)

Our Take

ABC has the edge with their proven Dharma/Two Guys line-up.  Additionally, The Nanny, Maggie’s lead-in may be showing its age

Expect to Hear

“I just know that you can turn even the most menial, thankless, minimum wage job into something not to be embarassed about”

- Maggie’s Mother

To Have and to Hold
CBS: Wednesday at 9pm (Hour Drama)

Premise

Sean O’Brien is a cop from a family of cops. Annie Cornell is an outspoken public defender.  While Annie and Sean do not see eye-to-eye when it comes to their jobs, at home they are deeply in love

The loving at home, fighting at work Lawyer/Cop relationship is right out of Hill Street Blues

Familiar Faces

Moira Kelly

Our Take

To Have and to Hold has a difficult battle competing against successful sitcoms on ABC and NBC as well as the established drama Party of Five

Expect to Hear

Annie Connell: “I hate when you talk like a cop instead of a human being”

Sean O’Brien: “I’m both”
