Knights of Prosperity
|
|
ABC
--- Half-Hour Sitcom --- Tuesday --- 9:00 PM
|
|
Premise
A group of misfits plots a heist to rob the
luxurious Central Park West apartment of Mick
Jagger after the death of a co-worker pushes
them to find a way to finance their dreams of
opening a bar. What these amateurs don’t know
is that finding the better person in themselves
is the much richer target
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Donal Logue (Grounded for Life)
|
Our
Take
Knights is probably one of the more amusing
sitcoms this year with a interestingly eccentric
cast. Additionally, it offers a nice alternative
in a drama-filled time-slot. However, this has
been a challenging time-slot even for the best
of sitcoms (such as Scrubs) and the show’s
companion sitcom (Help Me Help You) is
one of the weaker 06/07 sitcom offerings
|
|
Did
You Know?
The original title for this series was Let’s
Rob Mick Jagger followed by simply Let’s
Rob…. The new title obviously opens up the
show beyond what initially was somewhat of a
limiting concept

ABC
--- Half-Hour Sitcom --- Tuesday --- 9:30 PM
|
|
Premise
The series centers on the lives of Dr. Bill
Hoffman (Ted Danson) and six members of one
of his therapy groups. While the members of
the group all clearly need psychological help,
the same can most likely also be said for their
doctor
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Ted Danson (Cheers), Jere Burns (Dear
John)
|
Our
Take
As noted with The Knights of Prosperity,
ABC does have an advantage scheduling a sitcom
against a time-slot filled with dramas. However,
the pilot of this show did not play as well
as would be expected based on the initial network
promo clip. Of course, they may always re-tool
the show before it airs

Did

Past sitcoms featuring doctors and their troubled
patients include The Bob Newhart Show
as well as the short-lived ABC series The
Trouble with Normal

CBS
--- Hour Drama --- Tuesday --- 10:00 PM

|
Premise
Ray Liotta and his crew of professional criminals
plot and carry out high-stakes heists around
the country. This no-nonsense leader must make
his wife believe he is going straight while
he looks for one last big job to finish his
criminal career
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Ray Liotta (Goodfellas),
Virgina Madsen (Sideways),
Amy Smart (Road Trip)
|
Our
Take
CBS has a strong, established Tuesday night
schedule with NCIS and The Unit
that should strongly benefit Smith. The
producers have also filled the show with a top-notch
cast. However, Law & Order: SVU and Boston
Legal already have loyal 10pm followings

Did
You Know?
Thieves have been the lead characters
in a number of recent TV shows and theatrical
movies including Thief (recently on FX),
Heist (last year on NBC), The Italian
Job and Oceans 11/12

FOX

DeWitt) can talk their way through any situation.

|
Our
Take
Thanks to Bones, House and Prison
Break, FOX is on a positive streak in
developing successful hour dramas. The pilot
of Standoff appears to offer the same
quality. However, the real challenge is how
the program can be expected to keep an audience
knowing it will be exiled from this time-slot
come 1Q and the return of American Idol
|
|
Did
You Know?
ABC ordered their own pilot featuring a hostage
negotiator in 2004/2005. This program, entitled
Countdown, starred Jason O’Mara as
an eccentric negotiator. It was not picked
up

|
NBC
--- Hour Drama --- Tuesday --- 8:00 PM
|
|
Premise
In the small town of Dillon, Texas, first-year
football head coach must mold a team of boys
into football champions and encourage them
to be better men. Feeling the pressure, the
coach is expected to take the team all the
way to the championship
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Kyle Chandler (Early Edition),
Connie Britton (Spin City)
|
Our
Take
The pilot has a very positive “feel good”
environment and the show has what it needs
to appeal to middle America. However, the
time-slot could be a challenge given two established
dramas (NCIS and Gilmore Girls)
as well as Dancing with the Stars.
Of course, beginning in January it has to
face American Idol
|
|
Did
You Know?
Connie Britton, who is slated to play Tami
Taylor in the series, also appeared in the
original theatrical movie version as Sharon
Gaines
