Premise
When Mackenzie Allen (Geena Davis) was selected
as the first female Vice President of the United
States, that was all her party ever intended.
Accordingly, when the President dies, Allen
is expected to step aside. However, after realizing
what she is giving up – not to mention the character
of who will be taking her place – she realizes
that she needs to take a stand and accept the
Presidency.

|
Our
Take
Commander-in-Chief is a high-quality
pilot with a captivating storyline. Additionally,
this is one of the few 2005/2006 shows that
is receiving any real buzz. The real question,
however, is if there are enough viewers from
9pm to 10pm to go around.

|
Premise
CBS’ success lately seems to be mixing two key
components: crime dramas and Jerry Bruckheimer.
Close to Home is the latest dish from
this recipe. Jennifer Finnigan stars as Annabeth
Chase, a prosecutor dealing with crimes in her
own neighborhood.
|
|
Where
Have We Seen This Before
Another CBS/Bruckheimer detective show
|
Our
Take
While Close to Home is as good as any
other typical Bruckheimer crime drama, it will
be facing off against two proven dramas (Boston
Legal and Law & Order: SVU).

Premise
At the Jeffersonian Institute, a team of talented
scientists solves crimes through forensic
investigations. This team is led by Dr. Temperance
Brennan, a forensic anthropologist and novelist
(whose character is based on real-life anthropologist
Kathy Reichs). Wanting to increase her involvement
in crime investigations, Brennan forces herself
onto the cases of FBI Agent Booth.

CSI meets Crossing Jordan
|
Our
Take
Bones will have a great advantage come
January when it follows American Idol.
However, the real question is if it will survive
until that point as 8pm is a strange time
slot for this type of crime drama.

Earl (Jason Lee) plays a small-time crook
who makes a living by preying on others. After
losing a winning lottery ticket, Earl begins
to wonder if his poor fortune in life is a
direct reflection on how he treats others.
Deciding to change his ways, Earl surprisingly
recovers his lottery ticket and determines
to make right all of his past wrongs.

Happen to You
|
Our
Take
My Name is Earl was an enjoyable pilot
once you got past the initial negatives of
the character. The fate of this show will
depend on whether viewers are willing to look
past the first impressions of the character
and give the full show a chance.

Sex, Love & Secrets follows the love
lives of a group of friends in Silver Lake,
a neighborhood outside Hollywood. Behind the
scenes of their supposed friendship lies deceit,
infidelity and forbidden relationships.

Melrose Place meets…
|
Our
Take
UPN’s own concerns about this show have already
displayed themselves in a name change from Sex,
Lies & Secrets to Sex, Love & Secrets.
If they really believe that changing the word
“Lies” to “Love” will impact viewership, it
shows they are not really sure the show can
stand on its own.

that killed their mother twenty years earlier.

|
Where

Ghostbusters without the laughs (any)
|
Our
Take
Supernatural joins a crowded list of
2005/2006 sci-fi/horror shows. While it is an
odd fit behind Gilmore Girls, WB does
know how to make successful dramas. The pilot
is better than most of the new sci-fi shows
and features two proven WB stars.
