Rodney
ABC --- Half-Hour Sitcom --- Tuesday --- 9:30 PM

Premise
Reminiscent of Roseanne and Home Improvement, Rodney stands for everyday America. This real-life comedian plays a blue-collar worker who continually works at jobs he hates. To keep himself entertained, he performs stand-up comedy in local dive bars while learning how to be a better husband and father.

Roseanne meets Home Improvement meets a downscale Seinfeld

Familiar Faces
Comedian Rodney Carrington,
Amy Pietz (Caroline in the City)

Our Take
Rodney has a nice time slot (by ABC standards) between According to Jim and NYPD Blue. However, from a quality perspective, Rodney is no better (if not worse) than the myriad of recently cancelled ABC sitcoms.

Expect to Hear

"“A used car salesman…Trina, are you crazy? I’m gonna have a hard enough time getting into heaven as it is!"

- Rodney Hamilton

Clubhouse
CBS --- Hour Drama --- Tuesday --- 9:00 PM

Premise
Jeremy Sumpter plays a 15-year-old boy who lands his dream job as a bat boy for the New York Empires. During the season, he learns how to balance his new gig with his high school life and an overprotective mother.

A non-magical Angels in the Outfield meets The Kid from Left Field

Familiar Faces
Dean Cain (Lois and Clark), Mare Winningham, Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future, Taxi)

Our Take
The pilot (which details the struggles of batboy Pete Young to choose between doing the right thing and the popular thing) is definitely a feel-good drama that should resonate with the CBS viewership. However, plot-wise, it is unclear where the show will go next.

Expect to Hear

"“You ain’t arrived in this game till you have been booed."

- Equipment Manager Lou

The Billionaire
FOX --- Hour Reality --- Tuesday --- 8:00 PM

Premise
Britain’s version of Donald Trump, Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group of Companies, leads a group of young entrepreneurs through a real-life test where the contenders have to relive some of Branson’s own past experiences. Like all reality shows, the winner takes home short-lived fame and a nice chunk of change.

The Apprentice meets The Amazing Race

Familiar Faces
Billionaire Sir Richard Branson

Our Take
The Billionaire will be facing off against existing/returning shows on all five other networks. The real success of the show, however, will depend on what the finished product looks like.

House
FOX --- Hour Drama --- Tuesday --- 9:00 PM

Premise
This medical mystery features Dr. Greg House as the hero doctor and a medical malady as the villain. Though House has an eccentric and controversial personality, along with his expert co-workers, he will do anything to save a patient.

Dr. Charles Emerson Winchester (and his ego) of M*A*S*H meets ER

Familiar Faces
Hugh Laurie (Stuart Little), Omar Epps (Mod Squad), Lisa Edelstein (Daddy Day Care)

Our Take
Medical dramas have a history of success in network Television from Marcus Welby to ER. However, previous time slot occupant 24’s viewers will not necessarily care for House.

Expect to Hear

"Patients always want proof...we don’t make cars here; we don’t give guarantees ."

- Dr. Greg House

Father or the Pride
NBC --- Half-Hour Sitcom --- Tuesday --- 9:00 PM

Premise
NBC teams with the creative team who brought you Shrek, along with some all-star voices, to create this computer-generated-imaging (CGI) series. The audience will journey inside the lives of a pride of white lions who perform in the world-famous Siegfried and Roy show, and explore their lush Las Vegas habitat.

The sitcom Dinosaurs meets The Lion King

Familiar Faces
John Goodman (Roseanne), Cheryl Hines (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Carl Reiner (The Dick Van Dyke Show)

Our Take
Father of the Pride is an odd choice as one of two new NBC sitcoms premiering in the fall. Additionally, the timing seems unfortunate considering public perception of the recent attack on Roy. Only time will tell if the plots live up to the pedigree.

Expect to Hear

"You’ve got happy tail!"

- Kate

Veronica Mars
UPN --- Hour Drama --- Tuesday --- 9:00 PM

Premise
Veronica Mars is a 17-year-old apprentice private investigator dedicated to solving the mysteries in the small and wealthy seaside town of Neptune. Balancing her high school and professional life, Mars discovers all sorts of secrets while also finding her own way through life.

Nancy Drew meets Beverly Hills 90210

Familiar Faces
Enrico Colantoni (Just Shoot Me)

Our Take
Veronica Mars is a likeable drama that may have a challenge wrestling viewership away from One Tree Hill. On the other hand, UPN’s ratings expectations may be somewhat low.

Expect to Hear

"Veronica, why does trouble follow you around?"

- High School Principal

Blind Justice
ABC --- Hour Drama --- Tuesday --- 10:00 PM --- [Winter]

Premise
After an accident that blinds Detective Jim Dunbar, the resilient cop continues to work in the field instead of taking a desk job. Seeing the world through a new light (displayed via special visual effects), he uses his new senses to solve crime.

Daredevil without super-powers meets Hear No Evil (a TV movie about a deaf cop)

Familiar Faces
Ron Eldard (ER), Marisol Nichols (Cold Case), Rena Sofer (Just Shoot Me)

Our Take
The pedigree is excellent (Stephen Bochco) and the pilot seems quite well done. While Judging Amy should continue to dominate with the female viewers and Law & Order: SVU already has its own base of viewers, Blind Justice may be able to hold on to the NYPD Blue viewers.

Expect to Hear

“I took a bullet for four cops. You don’t need to tell me about getting their backs."

- Detective Jim Dunbar

The Contender
NBC --- Hour Reality --- Tuesday --- 8:00 PM --- [Winter]

Premise
The Contender follows aspiring boxers through a series of ring challenges and boxing matches over 16 episodes - with Sylvester Stallone as their guide. The winner will claim a million-dollar prize. Unlike The Next Great Champ which features twelve boxers, this series will feature sixteen.

Rocky meets American Idol (also see FOX’s The Next Great Champ)

Familiar Faces
Sylvester Stallone (Rocky, Rambo),
Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard

Our Take
Will viewers still be interested in a boxing reality show after FOX’s The Next Great Champ? NBC is certainly hoping so. In reality, it will all depend on the execution. While the concepts may be the same, it is still too early to know how the final products will look. Of course, facing off against American Idol may make all of this moot.
