Familiar
Faces
Movie
Actress Geena Davis, Peter Horton (Thirtysomething),
Mimi Rogers (Lost in Space)
|
Our
Take
Geena
has one of the best slots of any of the new
programs. Additionally, based on the pilots
provided, Geena is a stronger program
than its other new-show sitcom competition on
NBC (DAG). The sitcom, however,
does not live up to the quality of some of Ms.
Davis’ movie work
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Eliza
Ryan (Max’s young daughter referring to her
Barbie): “She lost her shoes”
Teddy Cochran: “That’s terrible. We have
to find it”
Eliza Ryan: “Daddy always makes me wait till
morning”
Teddy Cochran: “Men do not understand shoes”

Our
Take
While
creator James Cameron has a strong record in
producing hit movies (including Titanic),
there is no guarantee his success will translate
to the small screen (as was the case with Steven
Spielberg’s Seaquest DSV). Dark
Angel faces the challenge of being a high
concept series in a competitive time slot
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Max:
“I made you some coffee”
Max’s Roommate: “Thanks, it’s starting to
kick in… I feel almost human”
Max: “Yeah, me too

Michael

Mix
Kramer with Detective School-One Flight Up
(a short-lived 1979 series about fledgling private
investigators)

|
Familiar
Faces
Michael Richards (Seinfeld)
|
Our
Take
After
a brief clip of this proposed series received
less than an enthusiastic response from the
industry, NBC decided to re-tool the series.
This factor combined with the challenge Michael
Richards will face in its time slot does
not bode well for its future
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Vic
Nardozza (desperately trying to find transportation
to work on a case): “How about the Lexus?”
Mechanic: “No, that one doesn’t go in reverse”
Vic Nardozza: “How are the other gears?

After
his father leaves, Tucker and his mother are
forced to move in with his self-righteous aunt.
As the new kid in the neighborhood, fourteen
year-old Tucker struggles with growing up while
also dealing with his domineering Aunt Claire
and strange cousin

Malcolm
in the Middle moves in with Peg from Married
with...Children

|
Familiar
Faces
Katey
Sagal (Married with...Children)
|
Our
Take
It appears that NBC is hoping to capitalize
on the success of Malcolm in the Middle
with this series. The challenges they
will face is the fact that Millionaire
and JAG will most likely continue to
dominate combined with the unknown nature of
Michael Richards as a lead-in
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Tucker
(concerned that his aunt is spreading negative
rumors about him): “You didn’t tell her about
last night?”
Aunt Claire: “First Tucker, what I tell my
best friend is none of your business. Second,
Jessica Reed is head of our neighborhood watch
so it is my duty to inform her when someone
unusual moves in”

Familiar
Faces
David Alan Grier (In Living Color), Delta

(Boston Common)
|
Our
Take
DAG
has a fairly good time slot between Frasier
and Dateline, however, there is concern
that it will not be able to live up to the time
slot. Furthermore, Geena, DAG’s
competition on ABC, arguably has more “star
power”

Expect
to Hear
Agent
Jerome Daggett: “You get to hang out with
Hollywood movie stars and I’m stuck driving
Miss Daisy”
