1998/1999 Program Trends

Every year, there are certain trends in the new season

Last year, we saw the following trends   “Out of this World” “Cops and Robbers” “Dateline” A large number of sci-fi (Timecop), fantasy (Teen Angel), and magic (You Wish a.k.a. Genie) programs 1997/1998 saw everything from rent-a-cops, to street cops, to time cops     The increased number of newsmagazines in 1997/1998 made this a trend in and of itself

 

Here is a look at this year's trends

“Dateline - The Next Generation” 1998/1999 will see not only five nights a week of Dateline on NBC, but also 3 airings of 20/20 a week on ABC

“Nostalgia” FOX recalls the 70’s on That 70’s Show, CBS looks back to the Rat-Pack era with Buddy Faro, and ABC brings back Fantasy Island

“The Single Life” Divorce is in the background plots of Maggie Winters, Holding the Baby and The Secret Lives of Men.  The termination of longstanding relationships is also prominantly featured in Costello and Will & Grace
