2005/2006 Program Trends

Every year, there are certain trends in the new season

Last year, we saw the following trends:

“Viva Variety”
“Return of the Living Dead”
“Spin-Off City ”
In 2004/2005, we saw an influx of variety programs including Blue Collar TV (WB), Drew Carey’s Green Screen Show (WB) and the Kelsey Grammer Sketch Show (FOX). Interestingly enough, one of the cast members from the Grammer show was also in the pilot of the Drew Carey show
A number of stars in cancelled 2003/2004 programs were already back including Rob Lowe and Joe Pantoliano (moving from Lyon’s Den and The Handler to Dr. Vegas), Christopher Gorham (Jake 2.0 to Medical Investigation) and Jennifer Aspen (Come to Papa to Rodney)

C.S.I. New York was the latest in the C.S.I. family. Other spin-offs included a new Law & Order in Mid-Season (Law & Order: Trial by Jury), Joey (from Friends), Boston Legal (from The Practice) and every reality show

Here is a look at this year's trends:

“Lost in Space”
The success of Lost and Medium has resulted in a number of high-concept sci-fi dramas about ghosts, aliens, sea creatures and monsters
Attack of the Big Screen Actors
A myriad of movie actors are moving (or, in some cases, returning) to the small screen in 2005/2006 including Geena Davis; Donald Sutherland; Heather Graham; Freddie Prince, Jr.; Jennifer Love Hewitt; Melanie Griffith; and Allyson Hannigan
“Crime Still Pays”
Detectives and lawyers play key roles in a number of new 2005/2006 shows including Close to Home, Just Legal, Head Cases, Killer Instinct, Criminal Minds and Bones in the Fall and The Evidence and In Justice in Mid-Season
