2003/2004 Program Trends

Every year, there are certain trends in the new season

Last year, we saw the following trends:

“Cops and Robbers”
“Remember When”
“Copy Cat”
2002/2003 featured a plethora of new crime dramas including C.S.I. Miami, Robbery Homicide Division, Without a Trace, Hack, etc.
Last year there were new shows set in the 1960s (American Dreams, Oliver Beene) as well as three (Family Affair, Dragnet, Twilight Zone) remakes of old shows

There were two Wednesday night San Francisco Medical Dramas (MDs, Presidio Med) as well as two shows about thirtysomething men who returned to their teens (Do Over, That Was Then)

Here is a look at this year's trends:

“Invasion of the Silver Screen Stars”
In 2003/2004, there is a plethora of big screen stars moving to the small screen. Included on this list are Alicia Silverstone and Ryan O’Neal (Miss Match), James Caan (Las Vegas) and Peter Gallagher (The O.C.)
Different Strokes for Different Folks
The sitcom family continues to evolve beyond the traditional definition. Next year, expect dysfunctional families (Happy Family), multi-generational families (All About the Andersons), melded families (Like Family), missing parent families (Run of the House) and same gender families (It’s All Relative)
“National Security”
The traditional local L.A. TV cop is now being overshadowed by federal law enforcement agents. Among the national security agencies represented in 2003/2004 are Homeland Security (Threat Matrix), the NSA (Jake 2.0), the NCIS (NCIS), the U.S. Marshals (Karen Sisco) and, of course, the FBI (The Handler and mid-season entry Fearless)
