Vengeance
Unlimited (Mr. Chapel)
|
|
ABC:
Thursday at 8pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
For
1 million dollars, victims can hire Mr. Chapel
to mete out his own form of justice against
criminals that managed to elude the law.
And if the victim is unable to pay the million,
then Mr. Chapel will simply ask for a favor
in return
|
|
Favor
brokering was a major theme of the series
Stingray while the idea of hunting
down criminals who walked on technicalities
was the plot of Hardcastle & McCormick

|
Our
Take
It’s
on Thursday night against Friends,
which is highly successful against a younger
audience, as well as CBS’s Promised Land,
which has developed an audience against older
viewers
|
|
Expect
to Hear
“…people
who think that innocent and not guilty are
the same thing. People who treat justice
like some sort of business. Well, I’ve
got my own business. It’s called Vengeance
Unlimited”
- Mr. Chapel (describing the type of men he
battles)

FOX:
Thursday at 9pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
Carol
Ann and Charlie are hopeful filmmakers from
the midwest that have come to Los Angeles
to start their careers. With the help
of Trey, a local cameraman, they decide to
create a real-life cable program chronicling
Hollywood murders in this series from executive
producers Wes Craven (Scream) and Shaun
Cassidy (American Gothic)
[FOX
is reportedly recasting the show and revising
the plot]
|
|
Scream
meets Candid Camera

|
Familiar
Faces

|
Our
Take
FOX
is completely overhauling the plot as well
as replacing the leads. Accordingly,
it is hard to judge what will be the result.
One fact is true, however, the time slot is
a killer as NBC “owns” younger adults and
CBS “owns” older adults. While FOX may
hope to capitalize on the absence of Seinfeld,
Frasier has also been known to get
ratings
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Trey: “I used to think people from the
Midwest were normal”
Carol Ann: “Oh, no. We’re not normal,
we’re just very polite.”

|
NBC:

looking to make money via questionable business
ventures
[NBC
is reportedly adding new supporting actors
to this sitcom]
|
|
ACostello,
on FOX, is also about a single woman living
at home and working in a restaurant/bar
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Christina
Applegate (Married…with Children)
|
Our
Take
The
show has an excellent time slot and Christina
Applegate has managed to successfully shed
her Married..with Children character
|
|
Expect
to Hear
“I
got into a fight with my landlord.
He seemed to think I should pay my rent
on time and I was sleeping with his daughter”
