Premise
Betty Suarez is a sweet, intelligent and hard-working
woman. As a result, she is no way prepared for
the cut-throat world of high fashion. Also,
the fact that Betty’s looks do not meet with
the traditional fashion world expectations for
beauty only complicates her life

|
Familiar
Faces
America Ferrera (Sisterhood of the Traveling
Pants), Singer Vanessa Williams
|
Our
Take
Thursday night has become the most competitive
night on television. However, at 8pm, Betty
only faces one real established hit: Survivor.
Fortunately, Survivor is not the mega-hit
it once was, and Betty has a good chance
of appealing to a different audience. Now if
only viewers can get past the title…

|
Did
You Know?
Ugly Betty, which is based on the Colombian
telenovela Yo Soy Betty La Fea, was originally
scheduled to air Fridays at 8pm, but moved to
Thursday after receiving positive, critical
buzz
ABC previously called the program Betty the
Ugly

ABC
--- Hour Drama --- Thursday --- 10:00 PM
|
|
Premise
It is said that one person is connected to anyone
by a chain of six people. This drama illustrates
how a single mother, a self-made success story,
an artist/photographer, a criminal, a girl hiding
from her past and a good guy with a simple crush
are intertwined with each other in one way or
another

|
Familiar
Faces
Erika Christensen (Flightplan/Swimf@n),
Hope Davis (Deadline),
Bridget Moynahan (I, Robot/The Sum of All
Fears)
|
Our
Take
6 Degrees will have to face off against
the established ER as well as Shark
(which has a superior pilot as well as a lead-in
from CSI). However, ABC will most likely
be more patient considering that 6 Degrees
comes from Lost producer J.J. Abrams.
Also, Shark may have CSI, but
6 Degrees has a lead-in from Grey’s
Anatomy
|
|
Did
You Know?
Hollywood has its own version of 6 Degrees…with
Kevin Bacon. Accordingly, Bridget Moynahan of
6 Degrees was in I, Robot with
Will Smith who was in Independence Day
with Bill Pullman who was in Sleepless in
Seattle with Tom Hanks who was in Apollo
13 with Kevin Bacon

Premise
Defense attorney Sebastian Stark is used to
using all the weapons at his disposal to defend
his clients. However, after a man he helps free
commits a murder, he has to seriously re-think
his priorities. Now operating as a prosecutor,
he quickly finds himself facing off against
his superiors when he tries to use the exact
same win-at-all-costs tactics

|
Familiar
Faces
Movie Actor James Woods,
Jeri Ryan (Star Trek: Voyager),
Danielle Panabaker (Sky High)
|
Our
Take
In recent years, CBS has overtaken NBC as the
leader on Thursday night. Shark is arguably
one of the best drama pilots this year and is
moving into a time-slot that has already proven
successful for the network
|
|
Did
You Know?
James Woods joins fellow new CBS drama star
Ray Liotta in moving from the silver screen
to a starring role in series Television

’Til Death chronicles the lives of
two married couples. Jeff and Steph Woodcock
are newly married and filled with hope and
passion. Eddie and Joy Stamm have been married
for over 20 years and see marriage and life
in general from a more cynical view. The series
will reveal how each couple impacts how the
other one views their marriage
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond),
Joely Fisher (Ellen),
Eddie Kaye Thomas (American Pie)
|
Our
Take
While FOX has never really competed on Thursday
night, it has managed to stay under the radar
in the past with 8pm sitcoms. Brad Garrett
is a known star and is playing a character
that will seem very familiar to fans of Everybody
Loves Raymond
|
|
Did
You Know?
The reported CBS Mid-Season comedy Rules
of Engagement also features two couples
at significantly different stages of matrimony
(with one newly engaged and one established
in their marriage)

|
Our
Take
Happy Hour has nowhere near the level
of buzz as ’Til Death. Additionally,
there are options for viewers to change to
at 8:30pm. However, it all depends on FOX’s
expectations. They have settled for lower-rated
shows in this time-slot before
|
|
Did
You Know?
Originally, Happy Hour was to face
off against sitcoms on both ABC and NBC. However,
that all changed in August when ABC decided
to replace their 8pm sitcom slate with Ugly
Betty

Our
Take
It is always hard to predict what will happen
come January without knowing the results
of the Fall. A great deal will depend on
how many loyal viewers are already locked
up by Shark and ER by the
time The Black Donnellys makes it
on the air

The series comes from award-winning writer-director
Paul Haggis (Crash and Million
Dollar Baby). Haggis previously worked
