ABC:
Thursday at 8:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
Two brothers and their father find themselves
stranded on an island where humans and dinosaurs
live side by side. Based on the Spring 2002
miniseries, but with new actors playing the
roles
|
|
Land
of the Lost with better special effects
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Lisa Zane (L.A. Law), Movie Actress
Sophie Ward, Jonathan Hyde (Titanic)
|
Our
Take
The miniseries may have done well, but we
cannot forget that this show is facing off
against the ultra-popular Friends.
Add in the fact that the series features different
stars than were in the successful miniseries
leads us to believe that this show may be
facing extinction

Expect
to Hear

must face your fear if you are to overcome
it. Fear is the future. There is no fear in
the present - only action and reaction."

ABC:
Thursday at 9:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
From Ben Affleck/Sean Bailey comes this story
of a mild-mannered IRS agent who travels to
Push, Nevada - a town with many secrets. As
the agent searches for missing money, viewers
will have the chance to follow clues that
will lead to a real prize of one million dollars

Twin

|
|
Familiar
Faces
Derek Cecil (Pasadena/The Beat), Movie
Actor John Polito, Scarlett Chorvat (Freedom/The
District)
|
Our
Take
ABC’s second high-concept Thursday hour also
faces an incredible amount of competition.
Also, these type of shows tend to peak early
and then burn out (as was the case with Twin
Peaks)
|
|
Expect
to Hear
"Take
your time. Take careful steps…cause there’s
a secret, Jim and, like all the best secrets,
it’s not quickly told."

CBS:
Thursday at 10:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
Without a Trace follows an FBI task
force charged with finding missing persons
|
|
The
1993 ABC series Missing Persons returns
under the creative control of Jerry Bruckheimer
(C.S.I., Con Air, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor,
The Rock, etc.)
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Anthony LaPaglia (Empire Records),
Eric Close (Dark Skies/Now and Again),
Poppy Montgomery (Glory Days)
|
Our
Take
Without a Trace is a much more compatible
lead-out from C.S.I. than Agency
was. Add in the fact that Bruckheimer is behind
mega-hit C.S.I. (and that the network
will likely be patient with his show) and
there’s a good chance that there will still
be a trace of this show next year
|
|
Expect
to Hear
"You
gotta work from the inside out. Once we find
out who she is, odds are we’ll find out where
she is."
-

FOX:
Thursday at 8:00pm (Half-Hour Variety)
|

Premise
A variety program where contestants are given
30 seconds to display their skills/talents.
Non-talented participants are eliminated,
while the remaining ones compete for $25,000
|

The
Gong Show meets Star Search

Familiar
Faces

|
Our
Take
This show premiered this summer and ranked
#4 against total viewers. While it may have
come in #2 against 18-49, this will not be
the case when it faces off against Friends,
which owns that demo. This show may not even
have “30 seconds" of "fame” when
it moves to Thursday this fall

FOX:

|
|
Premise
Meet the Marks is a sitcom where an
ordinary person is the guest star. Each week,
an unsuspecting “mark” is placed in an unusual
or uncomfortable situation by a team of improvisational
actors without realizing that he or she is
being filmed/taped

|
Our
Take
In its premiere this summer, Meet the Marks
lost 16% versus lead-in 30 Seconds of Fame.
Not a good sign for a show that will be competing
against NBC’s powerhouse Must See TV Thursday

FOX:

Premise
Sixteen years ago August and Kay Wilde made
history when they gave birth to septuplets.
Now, the seven radically different siblings
are teenagers living with their parents at
a beachside resort

|
|
Familiar
Faces

|
Our
Take
Thursday 9pm is one of the worst time slots
to introduce a new program. While Septuplets
has the advantage of a youthful appeal, this
may be blunted by the already established
(albeit small) younger viewer base that will
already be committed to the two sophomore
WB sitcoms
|
|
Expect
to Hear
"Every
night is a Friday night here for you guys.
A lot happens between Saturday and Thursday."

NBC:

|
Premise
Jake is a successful producer hired to help
run a low-rated morning show in Miami. He
is all set to turn down the job until he finds
that he is falling in love with Dylan, the
show's hairstylist (played by Ashley Williams,
sister of Kimberly “According to Jim/Father
of the Bride” Williams)
|
|
NewsRadio
meets The Mary Tyler Moore Show
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Mark Feuerstein (Conrad Bloom/Fired Up),
Suzanne Pleshette (The Bob Newhart Show),
Jere Burns (Dear John)
|
Our
Take
Good Morning Miami is far from the
level of quality of Friends or Will
& Grace (and, arguably, previous time
slot occupant Just Shoot Me). However,
any show will do well at 9:30pm Thursday,
and since this show comes from the people
behind Will & Grace,NBC will be patient

|
Expect
to Hear
"You
have a gambling problem. Wasn’t that clear
when we caught you placing a bet on Aunt Sonya’s
bypass surgery?"

WB:
Thursday at 8:00pm (Half-Hour Sitcom)
|
|
Premise
Buffy, Jody, Sissy, Uncle Bill, Mr. French,
and even Ms. Beasley are back in this new
version of the popular 1966-1971 sitcom
|
|
Family
Affair returns to Network Television
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Gary Cole (The Brady Bunch movies),
Tim Curry (The Rocky Horror Picture Show,
etc.)
|
Our
Take
Family Affair is a family-oriented
sitcom as opposed to the teen appeal (i.e.,
alternative programming for teens) of former
time slot occupant Popular. As such,
it will have to deal with the challenges of
Friends and (to a much, much lesser
extent, Dinotopia)
|
|
Expect
to Hear
"We
disagreed over the disposition of hors d’oeuvres.
I thought the olives should be eaten. The
young master thought they should be hurled
like missiles onto unsuspecting passersby."
-

his teenage years in hopes of creating a better
life

Take

Live each moment!”
