Lone Gunmen
FOX: Thursday at 8:00pm (Hour Drama) - - - - - [Mid-Season]

Premise

In this spin-off from The X-Files, the three trio of conspiracy fearing computer-hackers continue to investigate reports of corruption and government abuse

The X-Files without the stars

Familiar Faces

Tom Braidwood (The X-Files), Dean Haglund (The X-Files), Bruce Hardwood (The X-Files)

Our Take

Although Lone Gunmen will benefit from The X-File’s loyal audience, it is competing against Friends as well as Whose Line is it Anyway? (which is lower rated, but still meeting ABC’s expectations)

Expect to Hear

Byers: “My father wasn’t murdered”

Langley: “But not for lack of trying”

Government Agent: “I don’t understand. Are you saying it was an accident?”

Byers: “We’re saying he’s not dead”

Michael Crichton Project
FOX: Thursday at 9:00pm (Hour Drama) - - - - - [Mid-Season] - - - - - Not Available for Preview

Premise

The mastermind behind Jurassic Park and ER, among other big-screen and small-screen hits, will create and executive produce a new show.  So far, the series has no cast, script or name. The network's not even telling what the show will be about

The first series about dinosaurs working in the emergency room???

Familiar Faces

<Unknown>

Our Take

At this point (with no announced plot), it is impossible to predict how this show will do.  We do know, however, that both NBC and ABC will most likely continue their dominance of this time slot

Expect to Hear

<<<Not Available for Preview>>>

Cursed (The Steven Weber Show)
NBC: Thursday at 8:30pm (Half-Hour Sitcom)

Premise

Jack Nagle was leading a happy and successful life until some misspoken words on a blind date resulted in his being cursed.  He now finds his perfect world falling apart as he continues to experience new and unexpected forms of bad luck

A sitcom version of the short-lived 1995 FOX series Strange Luck without the good luck

Familiar Faces

Steven Weber (Wings), Amy Pietz (Caroline in the City), Chris Elliot (Get a Life), Wendell Pierce (Benben)

Our Take

ursed has arguably the best time slot of any new show.  Of course, time slot is not everything (as can be seen via numerous “Must See TV” failures including Jesse, Union Square, Stark Raving Mad).  To Curse’s credit, however, the pilot appears to make this one of the better Thursday night contenders

Expect to Hear

Jack’s Boss (offering Jack a muffin while trying to make him feel at ease): “It’s about time you started calling me Bill...Muffin?”

Jack Nagle: “I prefer Jack if you don’t mind”

Gilmore Girls
WB: Thusday at 8:00pm (Hour Drama)

Premise

At sixteen, Lorelai Gilmore found herself on her own raising Rory, her newborn daughter.  Now Rory is sixteen and Lorelai finds herself enjoying an extremely close relationship with her; thanks partly to the closeness in their ages.  Lorelei’s parents re-enter the picture, however, when she is forced to turn to them to pay for Rory to attend an exclusive school

Another take on the single mother raising a teenage daughter theme (seen recently in the movie Anywhere But Here)

Familiar Faces

Lauren Graham (M.Y.O.B./Conrad Bloom), Edward Herrmann (The Practice)

Our Take

Gilmore Girls is part of a WB plan to develop more family-friendly fare (similar to what they have accomplished with 7th Heaven).  Accordingly, WB may decide to stay with this show even though it will be extremely ratings challenged airing at 8pm on Thursday

Expect to Hear

Waiter: “I can’t stand it, this is so unhealthy.  Rory, please put down that cup of coffee.  You do not want to grow up to be like your mom”

Rory: “Sorry, too late”
