Faces

|
Our
Take
There has been a great deal of positive critical
buzz concerning this show. Additionally, it
only has to hold its own for half a season.
On the other hand, the CBS movie and Law
& Order: CI have already established themselves
in the 9pm timeslot.

Boston
Legal [The Practice: Fleet Street]
|
|
ABC
--- Hour Drama --- Sunday --- 10:00 PM
|
|
Premise
As the name suggests, this show revolves around
the high-paced careers of top-notch Boston litigators.
A sequel to The Practice, Boston Legal
follows the personal and professional lives
of dedicated and determined lawyers.
|
|
The
Practice without the ethics (or at least
some of them)
|
|
Familiar
Faces
James Spader (Stargate), William Shatner
(Star Trek, T.J. Hooker), Rhona Mitra
(The Practice)
|
Our
Take
This show has pretty much already proved itself
as the cast was introduced during the last year
of The Practice. As long as they maintain
the quality of writing, the show should be able
to maintain its current ratings position.
|
|
Expect
to Hear

Without a pilot and only a brief preview, it
is hard to truly judge this program. While the
concept seems to be intriguing, it will all
depend on the execution.

WB
--- Hour Drama --- Sunday --- 9:00 PM
|
|
Premise
Set in present day and inter-cut with anecdotes
from the future, this drama features two brothers,
Jack and Bobby, who are raised by their single
mother. The dynamics of the mother-son relationship
as well as the brother-brother relationship
will impact the future of a man who will one
day become President of the United States.

|
The
American President meets Dawson’s Creek
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Christine Lahti (Chicago Hope)
|
Our
Take
The pilot is highly enjoyable, blending stories
about the president in the future with the
events in the past that shaped them. The show
seems to fit the WB mold. Jack and Bobby’s
two key challenges will be the timeslot and
the ability to maintain the quality of the
pilot.
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Jack:
“Don’t you ever get tired of it?”
Bobby: “Of what?”
Jack: “Not being like anybody else.”

The
Kelsey Grammer Sketch Show
|
|
FOX
--- Half-Hour Variety --- Sunday --- 7:00
PM --- [Winter]
|
|
Premise
Another import from the UK, The Sketch
Show is hosted in the U.S. by Kelsey
Grammer and features a diverse comedic cast.
Featuring fast-paced sketches and sarcastic
jibes, this show will be shot in London
and Los Angeles.

|
|
Familiar
Faces
Kelsey Grammer (Frasier, Cheers)
|
Our
Take
7pm remains a problematic timeslot for FOX
as it is not really viable until after football
season. Accordingly, viewers may not know
enough to tune in even post-football in
January. On the positive side, the show
is probably relatively inexpensive to produce
and can get by with lower ratings.
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Kelsey:
“Would you like to dance?”
Woman in restaurant: “Yeah, sure.
That would be great. Would you hold my purse?”

Premise
From the creator of The Family Guy
comes this animated comedy highlighting
the life of a patriotic American dad.
Stan Smith works for the CIA and is constantly
on the lookout for terrorist activity.
To his family’s regret, Stan will go to
unlikely extremes in order to protect
his beloved country.

Familiar
Voices & Faces

|
Our
Take
American Dad seems an odd fit for
9:30pm Sunday night (as opposed to right
after the Simpsons). In fact, scheduling
like this is what killed Family Guy
(which in many ways is the “father” of
this program). On the positive side, American
Dad will benefit from the cult following
for Family Guy, and FOX will not
want to make the same mistake again.
