NBC:
Sunday at 8:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
After
getting fired by his New York law firm only
to discover that his wife is cheating on him,
Ed Stevens decides to move back to Stuckeyville,
the small town where he grew up. Once
back home he finds himself still in love with
Carol Vessey, his unrequited high school crush,
and decides to buy the local bowling alley
|
|
Another
take on a person returning home after big city
failures (as seen in Maggie Winters,
a 1998/1999 CBS series)
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Thomas
Cavanagh (Providence), Julie Bowen (ER)
|
Our
Take
Ed
is a fairly likeable drama with a less than
perfect time slot. Touched by an Angel
obviously has the older drama viewers, The
Simpsons still draws a younger crowd, and
Disney has an edge with families
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Carol
Vessey: “I would like to make a toast to
the worlds first bowling ally lawyer”
Ed Stevens: “I’m actually going to try to
stay away from that phrase”
Carol Vessey: “That’s probably good thinking”

Hype
is a sketch comedy programs that parodies anything
that is hyped up in the media. As with
many of these types of programs, many of the
bits will be viewed by some as being crass and/or
offensive

|
Our
Take
While
some sketch comedy programs have worked in primetime
before (Laugh In, In Living Color),
many have not. (Does anyone remember The
Ben Stiller Show or Jennifer Aniston in
The Edge?) It should also be noted
that WB has had trouble with this time slot
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Bryant Gumbel Imitator: “I’ve been asked
by the Warner Brothers to explain what hype
is. I’ll try not to be too pedantic...Whoops!
I hope that word wasn’t too big for some of
you viewers”

WB: Sunday at 9:30pm (Half-Hour Sitcom)
|
|
Premise

his way to college in California, Dwight gives
Nikki, an aspiring showgirl that he just met,
a ride to Las Vegas. However, Dwight never
makes it to college as Nikki convinces him to
instead pursue a career as a professional wrestler.
The two soon fall in love, get married and decide
to follow their dreams despite the objections
of Dwight’s mother

& Greg) with Showgirls and WWF

|
|
Familiar
Faces
Nikki
Cox (Unhappily Ever After, The Norm
Show)
|
Our
Take
On
one hand, Nikki Cox has had some success (on
a “WB” level) in this time slot before.
However, Nikki seems much tamer than
Unhappily Ever After (which appealed
to a Married with Children audience)
and may face the same challenges as other WB
sitcoms that have failed here
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Dwight:
“I haven’t decided on a major, but I’m thinking
about Corporate Tax Law”
Nikki: “Corporate Tax Law? Why don’t
you just paint yourself gray”
