Premise
Tatoo is gone and Mister Roarke is now dressing
in black, however, the island is back along
with a chance for you to live out your fantasies
in this darker update of the hit ‘70s series
|
|
ABC
had a series in the ‘70s called Fantasy
Island
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Malcolm
McDowell, Madchen Amick (Twin Peaks),
Fyvush Finkel (Picket Fences)
|
Our
Take
The
Love Boat revival has proven successful
for UPN indicating a desire for ‘70s fare.
The updated Fantasy Island has all
the elements of the ‘70s hit, but with a ‘90s
attitude
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Harry
(referring to Mr. Roarke’s dark suit): “Oh,
wonderful suit, sir.”
Mr. Roarke: “Oh, thank you Harry...Have
those white ones burned, will you, I think
they’re a little dated"

is sent to earth (without his magic) and ordered
to unite 100 couples before he can return
to Mount Olympus. Using the guise of
Trevor Hale, Cupid talks his way out of a
psychiatric ward and begins his mission along
with the help of Dr. Claire Allen, a psychiatrist
who is not exactly sure what to make of her
patient

the romantic relationship of Moonlighting
and the romantic entanglements of The
Love Boat with Hercules the Legend
Continues
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Jeremy
Piven (Ellen), Paula Marshall (Spin
City)
|
Our
Take
TRelativity,
another light, romantic drama, also failed
against Profiler and Walker
questioning the room for this type of program
in this time slot
|
|
Expect
to Hear
“…And
being the Roman god of love for 3000 years
has prepared me for what?…desk job at Hallmark?”
- Cupid
(a.k.a. Trevor Hale)

Premise
Sammo Law is a Chinese police officer working
with the Los Angeles police force in hopes
of finding his protegee, a Chinese girl working
on the wrong side of the law
[Note:
CBS has replaced Dale Midkiff (the L.A. cop
in the pilot) with Louis Mandylor as Midkiff
will be in The Magnificent Seven, a
mid-season replacement series]

|
Where
Have We Seen This Before - Kung Fu: The
Legend Continues
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Chinese
action star Sammo Hung, Tammy Lauren (Homefront)
|
Our
Take
Between
The Pretender, an established Saturday
night genre show, and Fantasy
Island, a genre show with a proven
track record, is there room for Martial
Law? Additionally, Dale Midkiff
chose to be one of seven actors on The
Magnificent Seven, a previous occupant
of this time slot, rather than number two
on this show
|
|
Expect
to Hear
An
arrogant cop descripting Sammo: “He can
take any object in his hand and turn it into
a deadly weapon. Sounds like a nifty
trick. I’d like to see it”
Sammo (referring to an eraser): “…Is
this okay with you?

NBC:

Premise
Bo Derek plays Ciel Connolly, the matriarch
of a family trying to save their ranch despite
economic turmoil on the island of Hawaii.
Lee Horsley is Gardner Poole, once a close
friend of the Connollys and now a bitter rival
hoping to take over the land. Further
complicating matters is the fact that Poole’s
daughter is involved with the Connolly sons
|
|
The
western drama bit was done in the short-lived
series McKenna while the feuding families
is right out of Dallas (which also
lifted the idea of “kids getting along/parents
feuding” right out of Romeo & Juliet)
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Bo
Derek, Lee Horsley (Matt Houston)
|
Our
Take
This
show is an odd choice for a Saturday 8pm time
slot
|
|
Expect
to Hear
“The
big island of Hawaii, the Montana of the Pacific
- where else on Earth can you snowboard, surf,
and ride horses all before lunch?”
- Narrator
