That's Life
CBS: Saturday at 8:00pm (Hour Drama)

Premise

Despite objections from many of her family and friends, a thirty-something Italian woman (Lydia) in New Jersey  breaks off her engagement to fulfill her lifelong dream of going to college

A non-sitcom version of Pearl (Rhea Perlman’s 1996 short-lived sitcom about returning to college)

Familiar Faces

Heather Paige Kent (Stark Raving Mad), Ellen Burstyn, Debi Mazar (Working), Paul Sorvino

Our Take

That’s Life is an odd choice for its time slot considering that (despite strong support from the critics), 8-9pm Saturday night doomed Freaks and Geeks.  Additionally, this show does not really fit in with the rest of the CBS Saturday night lineup

Expect to Hear

Lydia Savage: “58 jobs and the whole time all I ever wanted to do is go to college…I’m the only person I know that’s dreamed about cramming for an exam”

The District
CBS: Saturday at 10:00pm (Hour Drama)

Premise

Facing escalating crime and a tasked police department, Washington, D.C. brings in outsider Jack Mannion as the new police commissioner

A darker version of the Commish

Familiar Faces

Craig T. Nelson (Coach), Jayne Brook (Chicago Hope)

Our Take

A strong drama in a time slot that has proven successful to CBS in the past.  It’s success will depend largely on the quality of movies that both ABC and NBC air Saturday night

Expect to Hear

Jack Mannion: “After you and I get done, this place isn’t going to know what hit it”
