Nick
is on a date with Peggy Burke, his new girlfriend,
when they witness a car accident. Unexpectedly,
Peggy acts strangely after seeing an injured
man, gets into Nick's Corvette, and drives away.
Later, Quinlan calls Nick when the car is found
with four flat tires in a bad part of town.
Nick proceeds to where the car was found and
is shocked to see Peggy pulled into a white
limousine. Once inside the limousine, a pimp
named Tyrone Diamond accuses Peggy of "walking
the streets" for a rival pimp known as the Reverend.
The guys run to the rescue and are soon involved
in a fight with Diamond and Blademan, the pimp's
assistant. Unfortunately, Peggy flees during
the confusion. Nick resumes his search for Peggy
by checking her house. Searching her house,
he discovers that she was a nurse in Vietnam.
Investigating further, Nick realizes that Peggy
is suffering from a form of delayed stress.
Meanwhile, Blademan arrives on the Riptide only
to be captured by Cody and Murray. Nick and
Cody then go to see Diamond while Nick is getting
into his army uniform in hopes that Peggy will
approach him. Next, when a call from the Reverend
allows Diamond to get the upper hand, Cody and
Murray are captured. Although Nick is soon reunited
with Peggy, his luck turns bad when he comes
under attack from Diamond. Fortunately, Cody
and Murray manage to escape and Diamond and
the Reverend are captured. As the episode ends,
Peggy, who has begun therapy at the VA hospital,
receives a Nick arranged visit from the grateful
father of a soldier that she had cared for during
the war.

After
a chance meeting with reclusive, eccentric billionaire
Baxter Bernard, Murray receives the Baxter 1000,
an advanced helicopter, as a gift. With Nick
piloting the craft, the detectives then fly
to a meeting with Baxter. The guys arrive only
to see some men attempt to grab Baxter. Then,
after being put through the motions by another
aircraft the guys' helicopter develops engine
problems and crashes. The guys survive the crash,
return to Pier 56 and soon meet up with Baxter.
Baxter then explains that he wants the guys
to help him stop the criminals that have been
running his company (ever since he placed himself
in more of a consulting role). Baxter further
reveals that he believes his company is trying
to sell a flawed helicopter to the government.
Although they have been given a second helicopter
by Baxter, Boz realizes that he will need photos
of multiple aircraft in order to prove anything.
Then, while Nick and Cody sneak into Baxter's
company disguised as army PR men (to take pictures),
Murray and Denise McKean, Baxter's loyal pilot,
access the company's computer records. Thereby,
Murray soon discovers the flaw. In the meantime,
however, the eccentric billionaire is captured
by crooked Baxter Aviation executives Weston
and Brady. Later, at a military demonstration
of the Baxter 1000, Nick and the Mimi force
the aircraft to perform a maneuver that reveals
the flaw. Boz then arrives with printed evidence
of the problem. Based on the evidence, Weston
is exposed and Baxter is freed. Nick and Cody
then capture a fleeing Brady. Afterwards, Baxter
announces his plans to give up his reclusive
lifestyle and to once again take active control
of the company.

Curse
of the Mary Aberdeen

Alone
on the Riptide during a thunderstorm, Murray
is hired by a mysterious man to find the Mary
Aberdeen (a boat) before she "kills again."
Adding to the mystery is that the stranger,
who identifies himself as Albert Trammond, leaves
behind a business card with a phone number for
a cemetery. Since they have been paid, the guys
begin to investigate the case and soon visit
Jessup Taylor, the original owner of the Aberdeen.
The guys are then told that Trammond, who is
dead, murdered Donald Taylor, Jessup's son.
Surprisingly, Taylor also hires the guys to
find the Aberdeen. Continuing their investigation,
the guys speak to boat salesman Tiny Tommy.
The guys then discover that the Aberdeen was
sold to a man named Cody Allen in 1981 (i.e.
the Riptide, Cody's boat, is actually the Mary
Aberdeen). The guys are then almost killed when
someone tries to shoot them through the boat
store's window. Realizing that Taylor was the
only one who knew where they were going, the
guys revisit him, accuse him of the attempt
on their lives, and return their retainer. Back
on the Riptide, the guys catch their mysterious
first client lurking around. They then learn
that his real name is Martin Stonewell. Stonewell,
a magician, then explains that a number of years
back his Vegas magic act had been used as a
cover for Trammond to kill Donald Taylor. Jessup
had found out and retaliated by throwing both
Trammond and Stonewell off of the boat. However,
Stonewell had secretly survived and has now
returned to the Aberdeen in order to find a
book that Trammond had previously stolen. (Stonewell
had been searching the Riptide while the guys
were working on the case.) The guys then search
the Riptide and soon find a map. Following the
map, the guys soon find the book (Houdini's
diary). Unfortunately, Taylor then uses Dooley
as bait in order to capture Nick and Cody. Fortunately,
with some help From Stonewell and Murray, Nick
and Cody escape. Taylor is captured but not
before shooting Stonewell (who then falls off
a cliff). Murray, having grown quite fond of
Stonewell, is quite upset until Nick and Cody
express their belief that they would not be
surprised if the mysterious magician has once
again escaped death.

Note:
This episode alternates between two stories
with one taking place in the present and one
taking place during the guys' army days. -----
The flashback portion of the episode details
how the guys first met Murray: Nick and Cody
had been assigned to escort a Captain Murray
Bozinsky to prison after the Captain had been
court martialed for hitting Colonel Litvak,
a superior officer. Feeling sorry for the socially
inadequate Captain, Nick and Cody had then decided
to take a little side trip to New Orleans. Once
there, they had arranged for Murray's first
"experience' with a woman. Afterwards, the guys
having realized that the Boz would not survive
in prison. had decided to get help from General
Collins, a superior officer that had owed them
a favor. Collins had then investigated, discovered
evidence that Litwak had been illegally utilizing
the results of the Boz's experiments, and had
ruled in Murray's favor. ----- The other (present
day) story begins when Murray is saddened to
reveal that after an unresistable job offer
from Professor Bradley Stivers, his mentor,
he has decided to leave the detective agency.
Later, Nick and Cody decide to personally deliver
Boz's belongings in order to visit with their
friend. Unfortunately, they find the company
that Boz was hired by does not exist. Remembering
that Stivers had quite a few allergies, the
guys check the local drug stores and soon find
out where the professor has been living. However,
their lead turns cold when they find Stivers's
dead body. In a connection to the flashback
portion of the episode, the guys then try to
figure out who would be behind Murray's kidnapping
and come up with Litvak. The guys soon search
the police company's parking ticket records
and locate a local address for Litvak. (After
receiving numerous tickets, the guys had realized
that it would have been impossible for Litvak
to have been in town without getting a parking
ticket.) Fortunately, the guys soon catch up
with Litvak and learn that the ex-army Colonel
has taken his revenge by selling Murray to Russian
intelligence agent Tanya Petrov. The guys soon
locate the fleeing Russians and are able to
stop their car by throwing Murray's computer
equipment out of the Mimi. Boz is then rescued
and reunited with his friends. [This episode
indicates that Murray's army rank was Captain
while the episode entitled "The Orange Grove"
had established that Murray was a Colonel. One
possible explanation is that Murray was promoted
after the events depicted in this episode. Also
of interest: "Boz Busters," a reworking
of the "Ghostbusters" song, was featured as
part of the musical score of this episode.]

When
J.J. Hafner is murdered, Julliet Hafner, his
daughter and a friend of the guys, hires the
detectives to find the killer. At J.J 'a funeral,
the guys meet their first suspect: Michael
Harris. Julliet then explains that Harris,
her father's partner in the oil business,
had been arguing recently with J.J. The guys
get more evidence against Harris when they
catch him sneaking around Julliet's apartment.
Unfortunately, Harris is later found dead.
A check on Harris's body written to Rick Osborne,
the owner of a gambling ship, then leads the
guys to the next phase of the investigation.
Murray then performs some creative accounting
on the guys' bank accounts, and the detectives
obtain an invitation to one of Osborne's cruises.
Once on board the boat, the guys learn that
Harris had been a regular customer. The detectives
then pretend to be cheating in order to get
in to see Osborne. The guys thereby hear when
one of Osborne's men calls his boss with information
that J.J. had sent a package to a Murray Bozinsky
before being killed. Fortunately, the guys
are then able to escape from Osborne's boat.
Afterwards, the guys "break" into the post
office and get the package. Inside the package,
they find a computer tape that reveals that
Hafner had discovered a giant oil reserve.
Realizing that Julliet is in danger, Cody
goes to protect her. Unfortunately, Cody and
Julliet are captured. Homing in on a transmitter
that Murray had given Cody earlier, Nick and
Murray fly (on the Mimi) to the rescue. Therefore,
Cody and Julliet are soon rescued. Additionally,
Osborne and Segura, the man who was trying
to buy the tapes, are captured.

After Murray receives some money for writing
a book on computers, a distrustful Quinlan
assumes that the Boz's recent financial gains
are the result of the guys having committed
a number of robberies in the area. (Helping
Quinlan's case is the fact that a copy of
Murray's book was found at the scene of one
of the crimes.) Meanwhile, Cody has his own
problems in the form of an unwanted girlfriend
named Francine. However, Cody's problem is
temporarily put on hold when the detectives
decide to clear Murray by catching the real
thieves. The guys begin their investigation
and soon learn that all of the houses were
robbed while the owners were on vacation.
Furthermore, they discover that all of the
burglarized families had boarded their pets
at the Camp Wellington kennel. Using Bucky,
Francine's obnoxious dog, the guys then check
their pet into the Camp. As expected, the
guys soon receive a visit from the burglars.
Thereby, they discover that a housewife named
Annie and her sister Rainey are behind the
crimes. The detectives also learn that the
two sisters have been forced to commit the
crimes by a mobster named Joey Dietz. (Annie
was forced to borrow $20, 000 from Dietz after
making a math mistake on her taxes.) Rainey
and Annie then take the guys to Dietz's warehouse.
Unfortunately, Dietz has already moved on.
Dietz, having become suspicious of the two
housewives, then kidnaps Rainey. Furthermore,
the Riptide is soon burglarized and all of
the guy's personal belongings are taken. Fortunately,
a quick computer trace by Murray leads the
guys to Dietz. Rainey is then rescued and
the guys are able to recover their belongings.
Later, Cody finally ends his relationship
with Francine, albeit not in the way he expected,
for it is Francine who breaks up with him
(after learning her pet was used in the case).

Under false pretenses, Mark McPherson, an
acquaintance of the guys from their army days,
arranges a meeting with the detectives. McPherson
then explains that he is on the run since
he is writing an expose about his days as
a CIA agent. As he can not go home, McPherson
hires the guys to feed his parrot. Reluctantly,
the guys accept. The guys go to McPherson's
apartment where they meet Gloria Burghoff,
a woman claiming to be McPherson's fiance.
Meanwhile, McPherson rents a helicopter that
crashes. Later, the guys are investigating
the crash site when they are shot at by some
men in a plane. Of course, the guys survive
the attempt on their life and they then confront
Gloria about some inconsistencies in her story.
Gloria admits that she is not Mack's fiance
but is actually an FBI stenographer. Furthermore,
Gloria explains that she learned about McPherson
when she was assigned to record a statement
Mack was to make about mobster E.G. Shaw.
The guys thereby realize that McPherson, who
was Shaw's chauffeur and not a CIA agent,
is fleeing from Shaw. Gloria, hoping her investigation
of the case will help her get promoted to
field agent status, then joins the guys as
they revisit McPherson's apartment. A thorough
search turns up the name of the newspaper
that was going to publish the expose. The
guys then visit the offices of the National
Investigator where they find out that MacPherson
was recently issued a check. The guys trace
the check and find out that McPherson is still
alive. Unfortunately, Shaw soon kidnaps MacPherson.
In response, the guys contact Shaw and offer
to trade the manuscript (which they do not
have) for MacPherson. Fortunately, Shaw is
captured and McPherson is rescued when the
guys arrive for the trade. Later, although
she does not become an agent, Gloria is promoted
to Director of Interrogation Analysis.

While
walking through Chinatown, the guys come across
an attempted kidnapping. Of course, the guys
step in and rescue teenager Chad Jennings, the
intended victim. The police try to arrest Sally
Jennings, Chad's mother, for the crime, but
the guys are unable to provide any proof as
they did not see her at the scene. Later, the
guys are somewhat surprised when they are approached
by Sally. Sally then further shocks the guys
by revealing that she was behind the attempted
kidnapping. However, after Sally explains that
Kyle Jennings, her hostile ex-husband, has prohibited
her from seeing Chad, the guys decide to help
her (but on the condition that she does not
commit any more crimes). The guys take Sally
to see Chad at the teen's school. Sally is then
horrified to learn that Kyle has turned her
son into a bigot. Realizing that if Kyle, who
runs the Peninsula Boys Institute, has been
teaching this kind of propaganda to other teenagers,
Sally may be able to regain custody of Chad,
the guys decide to send Dooley in undercover.
The guys also speak to Neo-Nazi leader Kefler
and discover that Kyle Jennings was expelled
from the "party" for being a nonconformist.
Unfortunately, at the same time, Kyle arranges
for some of his boys to assault Sally. Even
though Sally is hospitalized, insufficient evidence
prevents the police from arresting Kyle. Continuing
with his undercover investigation, Dooley befriends
Chad. Acting like a bigot, Dooley is then invited
into the institute's inner circle. Unfortunately,
after discovering that Jennings intends to drive
a van full of explosives into a crowd of anti-Nazi
protestors, Dooley's cover is blown. With a
helpless Dooley on board, Jennings then proceeds
with his plan. Fortunately, the Riptide detectives,
having heard most of Jennings' plan from a transmitter
that Dooley had been wearing, use the Mimi and
soon locate the van. Meanwhile, Dooley manages
to convince Chad to help him stop his father
from committing murder. Jennings is soon captured
and the van is safely exploded away from the
crowd. At the end of the episode, the guys convince
Chad to visit his mother in the hospital.

After a blown armiture derails the guy's fishing
vacation, they end up going to a nearby village
for some assistance. However, the guys are
in no way prepared for what happens when they
stop by a nearby house. Not only does Ruth
Davis, the house's quirky occupant, know the
guys, she also knows that she is about to
be arrested for murder. Believing Ruth to
be somewhat eccentric, the guys disregard
her concerns and proceed to Wally's service
station to get supplies. Unfortunately, Wally
and most of the town mistake Cody for a disliked
town troublemaker named Jake. Cody's mistaken
identity then involves the guys in a brawl
in a diner. As a result, the detectives end
up in jail. Strangely enough, as predicted,
Ruth is also in prison having been arrested
for the murder of her nephew Karl. After bailing
themselves out of prison, the guys decide
to help Ruth clear her name. First, the guys
go to Ruth's house to get enough money to
pay her bail. In the process of looking for
the keys to the house, the guys come across
pictures of someone digging as well as an
undeveloped roll of film. Later, after Ruth
is bailed out the guys learn some background
about Karl: Seven years ago, Terry Miller,
the homecoming queen, was kidnapped and murdered
by a man named Tony Davenport. Although there
was no proof, the police had also believed
that Karl had been involved in the crime.
Then, after stopping a fire that Ruth had
predicted, the guys develop the film they
found. With Ruth's help, they then learn that
the film they found contains pictures of Terry's
murder as well as pictures that prove that
Tony Davenport has been in town recently.
Thereby, the guys deduce that Karl must have
been using the pictures to blackmail Tony
and, in response, Tony must have killed Karl.
The guys soon realize why Tony is back in
town when they learn that the police never
recovered the ransom money that had been paid
to Terry 'a kidnapper. (One of the sets of
pictures was of Tony trying to dig for the
previously burned money.) Since Tony is still
in town, the guys determine that the killer
has not yet recovered the ransom money. Thereby,
the guys go to the spot where Tony has been
digging and plant a decoy briefcase. As expected,
Tony digs up the case and the guys are lead
to the killer's hideout. Once there, the guys
discover that Tony has been masquerading as
one of Ruth's friends. Unfortunately, in the
meantime, Tony manages to take Ruth hostage.
Although they are slightly delayed by some
townspeople seeking "Jake", the guys are still
able to catch up with Tony and rescue Ruth.
Later, the townspeople finally accept the
fact that Cody is not Jake. However, Jake
then shows up in town and pretends to be Cody
in order to pick up the reward that the guys
had earned for capturing Tony.

After
Tony Guirilini, the son of famed oceanographer
Angelo Guirilini, is shot while on a dive,
the Riptide guys decide to investigate. (Angelo
is a good friend of Murray's sister Melba.)
The guys soon realize that someone is interfering
with Angelo's latest expedition when they
catch some men lurking on the Arrivederci
Baby, the Guirilini boat. Unfortunately, the
prowlers manage to escape. Later, Cody and
Giovanna, Angelo's daughter, dive in the spot
where Tony was shot. However, their drive
proves almost as eventful as Tony's when sharks
arrive on the scene and they are forced to
hide inside an underwater cage. Then, the
two barely escape with their lives after an
underwater submarine cuts the line that was
supporting the cage. Afterwards, Cody and
Giovanna share what they discovered underwater:
All the fish near the dive site had died;
apparently due to chemicals that had been
dumpedd in the area. Nick and Cody trace the
submarine and learn that it had been rented
by employees of Vectrox, a company owned by
a man named Harry Silverman. Since Silverman
has been financing his expedition, Angelo
assumes that the Vectrox employees are operating
without their employer's knowledge. Therefore,
Angelo tells Silverman what they have discovered.
Meanwhile, a suspicious Nick and Cody decide
to search Silverman's office. Their suspicions
prove correct as Silverman soon kidnaps Murray,
Angelo, and Giovanna to cover his tracks.
Fortunately, having found proof that Vectrox
and Silverman are involved in illegally dumping
hazardous waste, Nick and Cody are soon flying
to the rescue on the Mimi. Thereby, Silverman
is captured and Murray and the Guirilinis
are rescued. As the episode ends, a recovered
Tony is released from the hospital.

Dragged
to a harmonizing seminar by Murray, the detectives
only end up arguing with each other after
a sarcastic comment from Nick turns into a
fight with a man named Ed Kramden. Afterwards,
having heard the guys introduce themselves
as detectives, fellow seminar attendee Sara
Rafferty hires the Riptide Detective Agency
to find out if her husband is having an affair.
The guys accept the case and are soon trailing
Chris Rafferty to a warehouse. However, the
guys are surprised when they hear a gunshot
and find the dead body of an unidentified
man. The next day, the guys update Sara as
well as give her a transmitter to hide on
Chris' clothing. Later, the detectives learn
from Quinlan that the warehouse body is missing
and the case has been closed. Regardless,
the guys continue with the investigation.
Listening to the bug, they soon hear Chris
(who is upset that someone was killed) speaking
to a woman named Carla. Based on what they
hear on the bug, the guys stake out the Santiago
restaurant. Unfortunately, the guys are captured
by federal agents. After being questioned,
the guys piece everything together and realize
(based partially on what questions they were
asked) that Chris has been trying to sell
the top secret Aries Project to a man named
Su Yim. Escaping from custody when they are
transferred, the guys head back to Santiago.
A gunfight ensues, but the timely arrival
of Quinlan helps the guys to capture the crooks
and to recover the Aries project. Then, in
order to get the federal agents off their
backs, the guys manage to convince Quinlan
to explain that they were all part of a police
sting. (Quinlan accepts in order to take credit
for the arrest.) Later, the guys, having argued
ever since the unsuccessful harmonizing seminar,
are all prepared to go their separate ways.
Fortunately, a visit from Sara (whereby she
admires their teamwork) reminds the guys of
their friendship and they decide not to split
up.
