As
the second season begins, as a favor to Cody's
mother the guys are heading to the airport to
pick-up vacationing college students Marion
Gordon, Portland Reed, and Weather Price. Fortunately,
the guys arrive at the airport in time to rescue
the girls from an attempted kidnapping. The
girls' gratitude is dulled however by the fact
that (fearing supplemental kidnapping attempts)
the guys intend to keep an eye on them during
their visit. The guys precautions soon prove
justified for there is another unsuccessful
kidnapping attempt at a yacht club party. Later,
while Nick takes Heather shopping, the kidnappers
do finally succeed in grabbing Portland and
Marion. Unfortunately, Heather disappears as
well. The guys then follow a tracer that they
had placed in Heather's sunglasses and are relieved
to learn that she was not kidnapped but had
run off to meet her boyfriend Tony. Theorizing
that the kidnappers would be calling Massachusetts
(where the girls' parents live) with a ransom
demand, Murray taps into the phone company lines.
Therefore, the guys soon locate the girls. Unfortunately,
while the guys are rescuing Portland and Marion,
Tony (who had been working with the kidnappers),
grabs Heather. However, Heather is saved after
the guys (having connected Tony with the captured
kidnappers) conduct a quick search of the area
in the Mimi. [Note: Ken "Superforce"
Orlandt joins the cast as Dooley in this episode.]

After
he is grabbed by two men and ordered to leave
a package on the Riptide, Dooley disregards
his instructions and immediately informs the
Riptide detectives. Inside, the guys discover
a bag of drugs. That night, the guys receive
a visit from FBI agents Merle Wilson and Eugene
Smith. Taken to meet FBI agent Mike Sharp at
the FBI 's Special Services office, the guys
are then asked to help the government prove
that General Doug "Pittbull" Johnson, their
former army commander, is involved in a drug
smuggling operation. Despite their feelings
that Johnson is innocent, the guys agree to
meet with the General. Unfortunately, before
they can learn more, the General is kidnapped.
Later, back on the Riptide, Quinlan arrives
with a warrant to arrest the guys. Since the
guys had previously replaced the drug package
with sugar, the police have no evidence and
the guys are not incarcerated. Then, after visiting
the now deserted FBI offices with Quinlan, the
guys realize that they were tricked into setting
up Johnson. (The planted drugs were intended
to prevent the guys from investigating further.)
Disguised in their old army uniforms, the guys
then sneak onto the local army base. Once there,
they discover that Colonel Davidson, Johnson's
aide as well as the man who posed as FBI agent
Sharp, has been murdered. Murray then taps into
the base's computer system and learns that Davidson
was involved with Operation Orange Grove, an
operation for the safe disposal of Agent Orange.
Then, the guys are able to piece together the
entire situation: Johnson was grabbed when he
had learned that Operation Orange Grove was
being used as a cover to smuggle drugs. Davidson,
a part of the operation, had been killed when
he became scared. Borrowing an army attack helicopter,
the guys are soon flying towards the site of
the Operation. After engaging in air combat
with the guilty army officers, the guys rescue
Johnson. [Note: In this episode it is
revealed that Murray was a Colonel during his
stint in the army while Nick and Cody were Second
Lieutenants.]

When
Murray hears that a reporter named Tawny Clark
will be doing an article on the Riptide Detective
Agency, he is somewhat upset since she had previously
poked fun at him in an article about his computer
work. However, Nick and Cody, deciding that
the publicity the article might generate is
worth the risk, allow Tawny to come with them
on their next case. The guys are then hired
by their slightly slow friend Arnie to investigate
what had happened to a boat known as the Morning
Star. Arnie then tries to tell the Coast Guard
that he heard the boat was in danger from an
injured mermaid and Tawny does not hesitate
to advantage of the humor of the situation.
Believing in Arnie's sincerity (if not the part
about the mermaid), the guys continue to investigate
and soon learn that the Dollangers, a couple
who were sailing on the Morning Star, were involved
in some kind of "shady" business. After almost
being killed when their investigation gets a
little close for someone's comfort, the guys
find out about the mermaid: It seems that the
mermaid was Debbie, an actress that was wearing
a mermaid costume as part of a tourist attraction.
Unfortunately, Debbie has been missing for days.
In the process of searching Debbie's house,
the guys are once again unsuccessfully attacked.
Later, the guys dive for the Morning Star and
discover that the Dollangers have been murdered.
Pursuing the case, Murray soon learns that one
of the men who attacked them at Debbie's house
is with the Coast Guard. Unfortunately, not
aware of Murray's discovery, Nick, Cody, and
Tawny are captured by crooked Coast Guard officer
Reavis. (Reavis, who has been running his own
drug operation, had killed the Dollangers for
refusing to pay protection.) Fortunately, Murray
and Arnie are soon speeding to the boat where
Reavis has taken the guys. The distraction of
their arrival then allows Nick and Cody to break
free and capture the criminals. Later, a most
uncomplimentary article is printed by Tawny's
magazine. However, Tawny, having learned something
from her experience with the detectives also
sends the guys a copy of the complimentary article
that her editor would not let her print.

While
teaching a course in computers at a local college,
Murray becomes attracted to Stephanie Davison,
one of his students. Thereby, the detective/scientist
is quite pleased when he finds a love note inside
Stephanie's final exam. However, Murray's pleasure
is dimmed by the fact that two men board the
Riptide and steal his class' final exams. Figuring
that the intruders, who used to hang around
Stephanie during the computer class, were probably
after the note, the guys go to Stephanie's house.
The guys are then stunned to learn that Stephanie
lives in an expensive mansion and that she is
married to international tycoon Ahrned Kamal.
Kamal, who had the tests stolen out of fear
that Boz was trying to steal his wife, apologizes
and returns the exams as soon as he sees the
non-threatening Murray. Later, Stephanie sends
a taped message to Murray claiming she needs
help. Responding, Murray and the guys meet Stephanie
in the decorating gallery of Pierre Milan, Stephanie's
friend. Stephanie then explains that Kamal has
been beating her and that she wants Murray to
help her escape. In order to get more information
on Stephanie (especially considering that Kamal
has denied her accusations), Nick and Cody then
pay a visit on Fashion Editor Wanda Wise and
discover that Stephanie has been married twice
before. Furthermore, both of her husbands were
wealthy, older men who died and left their money
to Stephanie. Unfortunately, before the guys
can warn Murray, the Boz arrives at the site
where he was to meet Stephanie only to find
Kamal 'a dead body. In turn, Murray is arrested
for the crime. After bailing Murray out of prison,
the guys once again listen to Stephanie's tape.
They are not completely surprised when they
hear Milan's voice at the end of the tape. The
detectives then go to Milan and confirm that
the decorator had plotted with Stephanie to
kill Kamal and frame Murray. At the same time,
Kamal 's brother arrives in town and grabs Murray
in order to revenge his brother's death. Fortunately,
the guys soon locate and rescue Murray. As the
episode ends, Nick and Cody are amused to hear
themselves mentioned on Wanda's latest radio
fashion report.

Before
going to their latest client meeting, Nick
and Cody confront Murray about a new invention:
a device that buzzes whenever someone lies.
After unsuccessfully trying to convince Murray
to disconnect the device, the guys proceed
to the meeting. Once there, they meet up with
television producer Jesse Wells and learn
that their assignment is to protect Karl Novack,
a guest scheduled to appear on the Les Carter
show. Unfortunately, the guys arrive just
as Novack, who is strangely singing nursery
rhymes, commits suicide by jumping out a window.
Afterwards, the guys decide to investigate
Cullen-Davis, the company that Novack used
to work for. However, Boz realizes that the
only way he can bypass security is to get
direct access to one of Cullen-Davis' computer
terminals. Thereby, the guys convince Murray
to sell his game ("The Box") to Dyna-Games,
a subsidiary of Cullen-Davis. Reluctantly,
Murray agrees and the guys are soon inside
the Dyna-Games offices. The Boz then accesses
the Cullen-Davis computer and feeds their
records via modem to his computer on the Riptide.
Before the guys can make it back to the Riptide,
however, they are confronted by retired General
Walker, Novack's former employer. Walker then
explains what had been bothering Novack: In
Vietnam, Walker and Novack were the only survivors
of a skirmish that resulted in the death of
thirty American soldiers. Unknown to the general,
Murray's (lie detector) box is turned on and
the guys learn that Walker is not telling
the whole truth. Later, Les Carter also falls
victim to the strange "nursery rhyme" malady.
After catching the men that had drugged Carter
and learning that they are with the East German
consulate, the guys and Jesse go to Carter's
house and find a tape containing a preliminary
version of Novack's interview. The guys are
then once again confronted by Walker's men
(the East Germans). Fortunately, they manage
to escape in the Mimi. As the episode ends,
the tape is aired and the truth about the
Vietnam incident is revealed: Walker and Novack
had killed the other thirty men in order to
avoid going on a "one way" mission. Walker
responds to his public disgrace by committing
suicide.

After a troubled girl named Cheryl Watson
is forced to leave her baby daughter Katie
at a church, Father Bob asks the guys to protect
the baby. Realizing that Cheryl must be in
serious trouble, the guys then decide to talk
to Patricia, Cheryl 's half-way house roommate.
Speaking to Patricia, they learn that Cheryl
had been arguing over the phone with her boyfriend
Phillip. Boz soon accesses the phone company
records and learns that Cheryl 's boyfriend
is working at the police department. Meanwhile,
Father Bob is attacked by men seeking Cheryl
and the baby. Fortunately, the guys arrive
at the church in time to rescue Father Bob
and to capture the assailants. Quinlan, acting
unusually cooperative (because it was the
Father who was accosted), soon informs the
guys that the captured men are connected with
the mob. The guys proceed with their investigation
and are soon sneaking into the police department
in order to discover the identity of Cheryl's
Phillip. Their investigation is successful
and they discover that Cheryl's boyfriend
is Phillip Everett, a married police commander.
Next, the detectives confront Everett. Although
the commander denies any knowledge of Cheryl,
the confrontation proves fruitful for afterwards
the guys (via a tapped phone line) learn that
Everett has been working with a mobster named
Holland. Murray's phone tap also clues the
guys in to a call from Cheryl. Thereby, the
guys hear of Phillip's plans to pay Cheryl
to leave town. Correctly theorizing that Phillip
can not politically afford to let Cheryl jeopardize
his career, Nick and Cody head to the intended
meeting site. Therefore, the guys arrive just
in time to rescue Cheryl from Holland's men.
Unfortunately, when they return to the Riptide,
they discover that two "police officers" have
taken Katie. Another meeting between Everett
and Cheryl is then set up. However, this time
the guys are ready and Katie is freed. In
the meantime, Murray interrupts one of Everett's
press conferences and provides the press with
evidence that incriminates both the police
commander and Holland. Later, the guys, who
have grown quite attached to Katie, are saddened
when Cheryl decides to move back to her parents'
home in Michigan.

Nick decides to attend his 15th year high
school reunion and is surprised when the festivities
are interrupted by masked men wielding automatic
weapons. After the armed men leave, Nick is
upset when he is unable to get any answers
from his former high school football teammates,
the men who appeared to have been targeted
by the intruders. Rather than let the issue
drop, Nick decides to speak to Sid Clover,
his high school football coach. However, Nick
is only left with more questions when he comes
across the dead body of former football teammate
Deke Martin. Nick's other classmates then
reveal that they have been running a drug
operation with Clover. They also explain that
mobster Frank Moran killed Deke and arranged
the reunion assault in hopes of convincing
them to give up their drug operation. Out
of loyalty for their high school friendships,
Nick decides to let his former team members
turn themselves into the police. That night,
masked men board the Riptide and grab the
guys. Fortunately, they manage to escape.
The detectives then learn that Clover and
company did not turn themselves in. Nick and
the guys investigate and soon discover that
the drug dealing classmates recently purchased
forged passports. Later, Nick is surprised
when he receives a call from Clover asking
him to meet them on their boat. Nick goes
to the meeting and is disgusted when they
offer to cut him in on the action. However,
his disgust soon turns to sadness when the
boat explodes right after he leaves. Later,
the guys review the boat incident and realize
that it was a set up. (Cody postulates that
it had made no sense for Clover to have made
the offer to Nick to get involved in the operation
for if they had thought he would get involved
with a drug deal, they would have made the
offer years ago.) Therefore, the detectives
follow Moran and witness a meeting between
the mobster and Beeber, one of the supposedly
dead classmates. The guys then learn that
Beeber has switched sides and is now helping
Moran. (The detectives realize that the classmates
only pretended to die in hopes of escaping
from Moran's wrath.) The guys, deciding to
interfere with Moran's plans, soon stop the
mobster and Beeber from killing the other
drug dealing classmates. [Note: With relatively
few modifications, this episode was remade

episode entitled "Never Go To Your High School

When
the guys are hired by a Mr. and Mrs. Collins
to find their missing son William, the guys
do not expect any real trouble. Thereby, the
detectives are quite surprised when the Riptide
is attacked and someone tries to steal their
only clue, William's suitcase. Unable to catch
the intruder, the guys decide to proceed with
their investigation by tracking down William's
last known address. At William's apartment,
the guys are once again interrupted. A car chase
then ensues but Nick and Cody are not able to
catch the intruder. Meanwhile, Murray, finding
the phone number of the company where William
works, arranges for the Collins' son to drop
by the Riptide. Later, Murray tries to find
out who the mysterious intruders are by developing
film from a camera that had been mounted under
Cody's car prior to the car chase. However,
although the pictures of the escaping car are
blurry, the guys find pictures that Dooley must
have accidentally taken when he had previously
borrowed the car. Unfortunately, before the
guys can learn more, William arrives at the
boat only to be kidnapped by the intruder from
the apartment. The detectives then confront
Dooley and learn that their intruder is a veterinarian
named Clemson. Dooley also explains that, while
working at the horse track, he stole a vial
of thoroughbred horse sperm that Clemson was
planning on illegally selling. Realizing that
they will need to exchange the vial for William
(who had been grabbed in an incident of mistaken
identity), the guys are disturbed to discover
that Dooley's mishandling of the vial has resulted
in the deterioration of the sperm. Regardless,
the guys set up a meeting with Clemson. Even
though McMurty, Clemson's "client," catches
on that the vial contains fake "sperm," the
guys are able to capture the crooks and to rescue
William.

For their latest case, the detectives are
hired by Fred Cushing to find out who has
been stealing valuables from the customers
of a posh beach club. Once at the club, Cody
is pleased to learn that Byron Monk, the lifeguard,
is his old roommate from the mid-70's. Unfortunately,
the case then takes a strange turn when a
man pretending to be drowning tries to kill
Cody, while the detective is posing as a lifeguard.
Meanwhile, the guys notice Byron romancing
quite a few of the club's female customers.
Of special concern to Cody is Byron's possible
relationship with a sixteen year-old girl
named Candace. Later, figuring that Byron
was the actual target of the attempt on Cody's
life, the guys visit Monk's apartment. Thereby,
the detectives are in place to catch a girl
named Melissa Bellencore breaking into the
apartment. Melissa then accuses Byron of blackmailing
her with compromising pictures of the two
of them having an affair However, the guys
soon discover that, although Byron did have
an affair with Melissa, it was actually someone
else who took the pictures. The guys soon
locate the camera and learn the identity of
the blackmailer: a private investigator named
Edward Steiger. After capturing Steiger, the
guys are somewhat confused when another attempt
is made on Byron's life. Meanwhile, while
staking out the beach, Murray finds out that
a small dog has been "collecting" and burying
items left lying around the beach. Having
"captured" the beach club burglar (the dog),
the guys focus their attention on finding
out who is trying to kill Byron. (Cody also
takes the opportunity to criticize Byron for
his careless disregard for women; especially
after Candace tries to commit suicide.) The
detectives soon realize who has been trying
to kill Byron when they discover that the
lifeguard is now dating Lizzie, Cushing's
ex-girifriend. Cushing is soon stopped but,
unfortunately, not until after the beach club
manager is able to kill Byron.

The
guys are walking down the pier when they see
two guys "roughing up" an elderly bag lady.
The detectives come to her rescue and soon
discover that she is actually Helen Howell,
a famous actress who disappeared fifty years
ago. Helen then explains how she had been
placed in the sanitarium by a man named Danny
Sutherland after their relationship went bad.
Furthermore, Helen theorizes that the two
men who hassled her were after her hidden
deed to Pier 56. Deciding to help Helen, the
guys realize they need to recover the deed
from inside the fireplace of her former mansion
(which is now home to James Sutherland, Danny's
son). The guys then disconnect Sutherland's
cable, enter the house as cable repairmen,
and recover the deed. Murray then poses as
the new owner of Pier 56 in order to draw
Sutherland out into the open. Unfortunately,
James goes after Helen instead of the Boz.
The guys then board the Mimi and head to Sutherland's
house. However, before they can rescue Helen,
James manages to flee. In the process, James
kills Danny when the older Sutherland objects
to his son's methods. Fortunately, with Cody
following in a borrowed limousine and Nick
and Murray providing airborne reconnaissance,
James is soon captured and Helen is freed.

After

for the Miss King Harbor Beauty Contest. The
threats soon intensify when a mannequin (that
has a knive stabbed into it) is left in Charleen's
dressing room. Then, after learning that the
pageant is being hosted by former game show
host Eddie Caruthers, a man who previously
put a female friend in the hospital, Nick
believes he has found the guilty party. The
guys confront pageant manager Chuck Davis
with their suspicions but are instructed to
find more proof. Unfortunately, while the
guys are searching Eddie's dressing room,
Caruthers manages to convince Charleen to
go on a date. Afterwards, Charleen is soon
found beaten and unconscious in the same room
as a murdered Caruthers. Later, when an analysis
of the previously recorded threatening calls
reveals that Eddie was the caller, Quinlan
arrests Charleen for the host's murder. Unwilling
to accept Charleen's guilt, the guys sneak
into Caruthers's apartment and discover that
Eddie had been making unexplained bank deposits
of $10,000 a month. At Caruthers' funeral,
the guys meet Bob Eubanks and Gene Rayburn
and learn that Eddie and Davis had been involved
in the quiz show scandals of the 60's. The
guys investigate further and discover that
Caruthers did not make the phone calls but
rather Davis used spliced together tapes in
order to frame the deceased pageant host.
Adding to the guys case against Davis is the
brand of wine that was found at the murder
scene. The detectives confront Davis about
Caruthers' strange deposits (which were blackmail
payoffs from Chuck). Confronted, Davis attempts
to escape on a nearby boat but is captured.
As the episode ends, Charleen wins the beauty
pageant.
