1995/1996
Overview
Outlined
below is a brief An overview of network strategies:
ABC
ABC's
mixes in some O.J./Law, adds a sprinkle of stand-up
comedians, and tops it off by bringing back established
stars
With
more new shows than anyone other network in 1995/1996,
CBS has relied on all of the aforementioned ingredients:
Established stars, "Friends"-like sitcoms,
and law. The major exception is American Gothic, an unexpected choice
for the former Tiffany network
In
the past FOX has set itself off from the other
networks in pushing the boundaries of television
by airing shows that do not necessarily fit the
normal television mold.
Nevertheless, this year they have joined
in with the Friends clone craze
As
the home to Friends,
NBC must have felt obligated to be one of the
first networks to try and clone the originator's
success
UPN
Last
year, UPN tried to balance their successful series
Star Trek: Voyager with a number of sitcoms. This year, they have gone for adventure as
well as a soap (Live Shot)
WB
Warner
Brothers' upstart network continues to program
an all sitcom schedule including Simon,
the story of an apparently stupid yet successful
man (which appears to be a clone of Forest
Gump)
