The
2005/2006 Season
|
- ABC:
As predicted, The Benefactor could
not compete against Fear Factor
- CBS:
Listen Up’s demise was not unexpected
given the replacement of the lead actress,
not to mention the supposed “Seinfeld
Curse”
- NBC:
LAX lived up to our predictions in
being unable to compete with CSI Miami
- UPN:
While Second Time Around did fit
nicely into the UPN schedule, in 2005/2006
they have eliminated the Tuesday night extension
of their ethnic block, requiring a reduction
in the number of sitcoms
|
- ABC
once again returns with football following
an 8pm reality block
- As
expected, CBS returns with their successful
night of comedies. With Everybody Loves
Raymond off the air, they have “promoted”
Two and a Half Men
- With
the failure of their 2004/2005 schedule,
FOX is trying sitcoms Monday night followed
by a new serial drama. House moves
to Monday in the Winter followed by 24,
the original FOX serial drama
- NBC
returns with the same basic schedule with
one change: Fear Factor (which
is problematic for many advertisers) has
been replaced by an unproven new drama
- UPN
returns with an identical strategy, while
WB’s strategy is similar (i.e., a night
of dramas) except for Just Legal replacing
a relocated Everwood

The
2005/2006 Season
|
-
ABC:As noted last year, Rodney
benefited from a good time slot
- CBS:
Per our prediction, Clubhouse might
have made an enjoyable TV movie, but did
not have the plot to drive a series
- FOX:
Billionaire, as expected, could
not survive the competition, while House
followed other winning medical dramas
in succeeding
-
NBC: Father of the Pride
was always an odd choice for a series
and its demise was no surprise
- UPN:
Veronica Mars the series was as
likeable as Veronica Mars the pilot,
and UPN stuck with it despite mediocre
ratings
|
- ABC
returns with sitcoms at 8pm and a critically
acclaimed drama at 10pm. However, they
have abandoned the 9-10pm sitcom block
in return for a new drama
- CBS
is back with dramas at 8pm and 10pm. Not
having found a successful drama at 9pm,
they are instead movingto reality for
that hour
- Come
1Q, Tuesday is all about American Idol
for Fox. Until then, they are hoping to
capitalize on the success of House
with another drama at 8pm
- NBC
is back with a night of reality followed
by sitcoms followed by Law & Order,
while UPN has abandoned their Tuesday
night ethnic block in return for reality
and an unproven new drama
- WB
is back with a night of dramas. However,
they have now paired Gilmore Girls
with newcomer (and possibly incompatible)
Supernatural

The
2005/2006 Season
|
- ABC:
We liked the pilot of Lost, but were
as surprised as anyone (including ABC) how
successful it became. For Wife Swap,
we thought it would succeed as long as they
continued to deliver enjoyable episodes.
- CBS:
As expected, Center of the Universe
did not return, while CSI: NY quickly
proved itself
- NBC:
Per our predictions, Hawaii did not
fit in its time slot
- UPN:
With UPN deciding to stick with Veronica
Mars, they could not also support another
year of the mediocre-rated Kevin Hill
- WB:
The viewers agreed with our assessment that
The Mountain was not compatible with
Smallville
|
- With
the exception of Lost (which is moving
to 9pm), ABC has a whole new Wednesday night
schedule. They will be leading with sitcoms
and ending the night with sci-fi
- CBS
has also overhauled the night quite a bit.
They have moved their sitcoms to 8pm with
dramas taking over at 9pm
- FOX
is sticking with comedies at 8pm, but following
up with a drama (albeit a comedic one) at
9pm. Of course, this all changes in January
with American Idol followed by a
comedy
- NBC
is keeping dramas from 9pm to 11pm, but
trying out reality at 8pm, while UPN is
returning with last year’s strategy (reality
followed by a drama)
- WB
once again has a night of dramas. For 2005/2006,
they will be giving One Tree Hill a
chance to lead off a night

The
2005/2006 Season
|
-
ABC: As expected, Life As We Know
It could not face off against the competition
- NBC:
We did not expect Joey to do as well
as Friends (and it lived up to that
potential); however, we did feel the pilot
was better than the low expectations, and
the show’s survival is a reflection of that
- WB:
Per our expectations, Blue Collar
benefited from its low cost and low expectations,
whereas Green Screen and Studio
7 were failures waiting to happen
|
- ABC
has re-worked their 8-10pm schedule, moving
in Alias (which got a boost last
year from following Lost) and an
unproven drama
- CBS
and NBC return with their identical 2004/2005
schedules, while on FOX, the returning O.C.
is once again followed by a drama
- UPN
and WB have completely overhauled their
Thursday night schedules: On
UPN, wrestling is out to be replaced by
a night of comedies, while over at WB reality
has been replaced by a night of dramas

The
2005/2006 Season
|
- ABC:
As predicted, Mel Gibson’s involvement with
Savages did not help it to survive
- CBS/NBC:
We were on target in expressing that both
Dr. Vegas and Medical Investigation
would have a problem surviving in the
10pm timeslot
-
FOX:
Per our expectations, the male skewing Next
Great Champ was an odd fit for Friday
night
- WB:
Due to health issues with the cast, Commando
Nanny never even premiered
|
- ABC
has moved away from 8pm-9pm sitcoms in favor
of reality
- CBS
returns with a night of drama; however,
they have replaced most of them in hopes
of skewing younge
-
FOX has once again reworked Friday, moving
back to sitcoms at 8pm NBC has moved Dateline
to 9pm, making room for a new reality show
at 8pm. They are sticking with a drama at
10pm, but moving away from a procedural-themed
series
- With
Enterprise gone, UPN is moving WWE
to Friday (away from their incompatible
core schedule), while WB is once again back
with a night of sitcoms

the fourth year in a row, there are no new

The
2005/2006 Season
|
- ABC:
Desperate Housewives more than lived
up to the positive buzz the pilot had, while
Boston Legal met our expectations
in succeeding
- FOX:
The Partner never even premiered
- WB:
As expected, Jack & Bobby was hurt
by its time slot as well as the ability
to keep viewers as captivated as they might
have been by the pilot
|
- ABC
returns with their same 2005/2006 Spring
schedule, as does CBS
- FOX
is also sticking with their Spring “Animation
Domination” schedule with one non-animated
sitcom stuck in the middle
- NBC
also returns with the same basic schedule,
but with the critically acclaimed West
Wing replacing the critically acclaimed
American Dreams
- WB
has somewhat reworked their schedule trying
for variety at 9pm (after failing with dramas)
and sitcoms at 7pm
