The
New Season
|
- ABC:
While Dragnet never actually premiered
on Monday night, Miracles did finally
show up later in the year. As predicted,
it was not around too long
- CBS:
As expected, both Still Standing
and C.S.I. Miami have returned
- FOX:
Without a pilot, we were unsure as to
the future of Girls Club. However,
we were right on the money in expressing
concerns that it could very easily follow
in the footsteps of Snoops, Kelley’s
other short-lived flop
- UPN:
As predicted last year, Half and Half
found a comfortable place in UPN’s Monday
night urban lineup
- WB:
We were on target in noting that Everwood
was a high quality program that would
prove highly compatible with 7th Heaven
|
- ABC
once again returns with football. Giving
up on sitcoms, they are now filling the
8pm hour with Primetime Live
- CBS
has returned with their successful 2-hour
comedy block followed by C.S.I. Miami.
With King of Queens moving to Wednesday,
Raymond and company are now joined
by a new sitcom starring Charlie Sheen
- FOX
returns with mid-season hit Joe Millionaire
joined by a new drama at 9pm
- NBC
and UPN have maintained their same basic
strategies (dramas for NBC and urban comedies
for UPN) adding one new show each. WB
returns with their exact same schedule
- Note:
Crossing Jordan is scheduled
to return to NBC in mid-season

New Season

ABC: We were right on target in predicting
the success of 8 Simple Rules.
To our surprise, Life with Bonnie
and Less than Perfect have also
returned. However, the renewal of these
shows is probably more a result of ABC’s
particular needs than the ratings. Competitive
(and cancelled) NBC show Hidden Hills
actually beat both of these shows against
total viewers and the key A18-49 demo
- NBC:
Per our expectations, neither The In-Laws
nor Hidden Hills have returned
- UPN:
As predicted, Haunted did not make
it through the season
|
- ABC
maintains their same sitcom/NYPD Blue
strategy with one new program replacing
the relocated According to Jim
- CBS
also returns with an almost identical
schedule with one change: JAG spin-off
NCIS moves into JAG’s old
time slot
- FOX
is back with their 2002/2003 mid-season
schedule while NBC continues with sitcoms
from 8-10pm now paired with Law & Order:
SVU instead of Dateline
- With
Buffy now gone, UPN is moving to
an all sitcom schedule hoping to expand
upon their Monday night sitcom success
- Gilmore
Girls returns on WB at 8pm followed
by One Tree Hill (added at the
last minute replacing the previously announced
Fearless)

New Season
|
-
ABC & CBS: Following our predictions,
both the ABC and CBS 10pm medical dramas
were defeated by Law & Order
- FOX:
As expected, Cedric survived the
season while Fastlane did not
- UPN:
Our concerns regarding the time slot and
lack of Smallville-type charm in
Birds of Prey proved well-founded
|
- ABC
returns with the same basic strategy of
sitcoms-reality-drama. Changes include a
new sitcom replacing the relocated George
Lopez and a new drama replacing the
D.O.A. MDs
- In
a risky move, CBS has moved King of Queens
from Mondays in hopes of establishing a
comedy foothold on Wednesday. They are once
again trying a drama at 10pm
- FOX
is changing to a night of sitcoms joining
three returning comedies with a new show
from Norm McDonald
- NBC
returns with their same schedule while UPN
is trying to join Enterprise with
another new sci-fi oriented series
- WB
has replaced the departed Dawson’s Creek
with a relocated Smallville combined
with perennial time slot hopping Angel

The
New Season
|
-
ABC:
Our predictions were right on with Dinotopia
(which premiered quite late in the season)
quickly moving to extinction as well as
Twin Peaks wannabe Push, Nevada
- CBS:
Living up to our expectations, Without
a Trace did not disappear
- FOX:
As expected, FOX’s 8pm-9pm reality block
was soon gone and, following in the footsteps
of past pilots Manchester Prep and
Hollyweird, Septuplets never
even premiered
- NBC:Of
no surprise to anyone, Good Morning Miami
benefited from the established ratings offered
to any program with a Thursday night berth
- WB:
There was no “do over” offered with WB’s
Thursday night sitcom block and, as predicted,
the 2002/2003 premieres have not returned
|
- Following
the complete collapse of their 8pm-10pm
schedule last year, ABC is playing it safe
with a known reality show at 9pm. However,
they are also taking a huge risk in trying
another drama at 8pm
- CBS
and fellow Viacom network UPN have retained
their same 2002/2003 schedules while FOX
is trying out two new dramas
- Must
See TV is, of course, back on NBC. The
one change is the addition of Coupling
(based on the British series of the same
name) in place of a relocated Good Morning
Miami
- WB
is once again hoping for sitcom success
on Thursday with two new comedies and a
relocated What I Like About You replacing
their three cancelled 2002/2003 sitcoms

The
New Season
|
- ABC:
As expected, That Was Then, following
other past Friday night sci-fi and light
drama failures, did not make it through
the season
- CBS:
Our previous concerns that Hack might
be too serious for Friday night seem to
have been mirrored by CBS, considering the
show is moving to Saturday. We were also
correct in predicting that Robbery Homicide
Division could not survive against Law
& Order: SVU
- FOX:
Fulfilling our expectations, neither Firefly
nor John Doe have returned for a
sophomore season
- WB:
Per our predictions, the returning What
I Like About You fared much better than
departing Greetings from Tucson
|
- ABC
is hoping to return to their Friday night
sitcom success of years gone by with the
help of a relocated George Lopez
-
Moving away from 48 Hours, CBS is
going with a night of all dramas. As with
ABC, they are transplanting an established
series (JAG) to Friday
- As
with ABC and CBS, FOX is also moving an
established series (Boston Public)
in hopes of gaining a foothold on Friday.
Additionally, they have replaced their traditional
8pm drama slot with sitcoms
- NBC
is back with Dateline and dramas
on Friday. Likely female-oriented Miss
Match is filling the space left by past
female-skewing time slot winner Providence,
while critically acclaimed Boomtown
replaces a surprisingly relocated Law
& Order: SUV
- UPN
returns with their Friday night movie franchise,
while WB once again offers a night of comedies

The
New Season
|
- No
new shows premiered on Saturday in 2002/2003
|
- For
the second year in a row, there are no new
series on Saturday night
- Moving
away from a 3 hour movie block, ABC has
moved Disney from its long-time Sunday
night slot to Saturday. Joining Disney
is Dragnet (renamed L.A. Dragnet
for its sophomore year)
- With
Touched by an Angel retired and The
Agency not meeting expectations, CBS
has joined sole Saturday success The
District with relocated Friday night
programs 48 Hours and Hack
- NBC
returns with their Saturday movie franchise

The
New Season
|
- CBS:
As predicted, Bram and Alice was
quickly cancelled. (At four episodes, only
Girls Club and That Was Then had
shorter runs in 2002/2003)
- FOX:
Like Septuplets, The Grubbs never
even premiered. On the other hand, Oliver
Beene did not premiere until mid-season.
- NBC:
As expected, American Dreams offered
a nice nostalgic alternative for Sunday
night viewers. Boomtown lived up
to the quality we noted last year and become
a favorite of the critics
|
- In
a last minute reprieve, ABC is bringing
back The Practice (albeit without
a number of the series’ stars). Replacing
the relocated Disney is long-term
ABC backup Videos followed by a new
drama
- CBS
returns with 60 Minutes and their
Sunday night movie franchise. Sandwiched
between these two programs is the new Jerry
Bruckheimer Cold Case, which replaces
their 2002/2003 attempt at a Sunday night
sitcom block
- Continuing
their post-X-Files strategy of all
comedies, FOX is filling their two open
slots with new sitcoms
- NBC
has brought back their 2002/2003 schedule
with one change: the new Rob Lowe series
Lyon’s Den has replaced a relocated
Boomtown
- WB
continues their Sunday night of dramas with
Smallville:Beginnings replacing Gilmore
Girls:Beginnings and Tarzan and Jane
swinging in to replace the (once again)
relocated Angel
