CBS:
Monday at 9:30pm (Half-Hour Sitcom)
|
|
Premise
After 15 years of marriage, blue-collar parents
Bill and Judy Miller are “still standing” -
i.e., still holding their own in raising their
children and staying married despite the obstacles
they face
|
|
The
King of Queens with children
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Mark Addy (The Flinstones in Viva Rock Vegas/The
Full Monty), Jami Gertz (Square Pegs/Less
Than Zero)
|
Our
Take
Still Standing should fit in nicely with
the rest of the CBS Monday night comedies. The
only question is what may happen if Becker
fails on Sunday and they decide to move it back,
or if they decide to replace one of the Monday
night shows with Baby Bob
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Paul:
“Linda tells me you two have been married
for fifteen years.”
Bill Miller: “Yeah, and I can honestly say
it’s still not worth half my stuff to get rid
of her. - Now that’s love.”

CBS:
Monday at 10:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
The creative forces behind C.S.I. provides
another hour of crime drama focused on a team
of crime scene investigators using forensic
science to solve crimes
|
|
C.S.I.
hits the Sunshine State
|
|
Familiar
Faces
David Caruso (NYPD Blue), Kim Delaney
(NYPD Blue/Philly), Emily Proctor (The
West Wing)
|
Our
Take
An established premise, a franchise that seems
reminiscent of Law & Order, a strong
night of sitcoms in the preceding time slots
-- all good signs that Miami may be only the
first of many C.S.I. spin-offs
|
|
Expect
to Hear
"This
is Miami - every night is a weekend."
-
Club Door Man

FOX:
Monday at 9:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
Girls Club is another legal drama from
David E. Kelley (executive producer on legal
dramas The Practice and L.A. Law
as well as Boston Public and Ally
McBeal). This time Kelley will be focusing
on the personal and professional lives of three
young female attorneys
|
|
?????
- Perhaps Ally McBeal meets The Practice
[hopefully without meeting Snoops]
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Movie Actress Gretchen Mol, Kathleen Robertson
(Beverly Hills 90210), Chyler Leigh (Not
Another Teen Movie)
|
Our
Take
On one hand, you have all of Kelley’s successes.
On the other hand, there is Snoops (not
to mention the end of Ally McBeal). Without
even a short clip to look at, it is hard to
predict what way Girls Club will fall

UPN:
Monday at 9:30pm (Half-Hour Sitcom)
|
|
Premise
Dee Dee and Mona are sisters who share a father,
but nothing else. Mona was raised by a single
mother in a middle-class environment while Dee
Dee was raised by her wealthy parents. Now,
Dee Dee and Mona are living together in the
same apartment building
|
|
A
“twin-less” version of Sister, Sister
or the first half of The Parent Trap
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Telma Hopkins (Family Matters)
|
Our
Take
Half and Half should fit nicely into
UPN’s urban comedy block. However, UPN has already
prepared a mid-season urban replacement show
(Abby starring Sydney Tamila Poitier)
which may place pressure on all the Monday sitcoms
|
|
Expect
to Hear
"Unfortunately,
the world is made up of Dee Dees and Monas -
and I ended up a Mona."
-
Mona

WB:
Monday at 9:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
Dr. Andrew Brown was a world-famous neurosurgeon
who spent more time on the job than with his
family. After his wife dies, however, he decides
to focus on his family, moving them from the
city to the small rural town of Everwood, Colorado
|
|
The
short-lived early 90s CBS series Harts of
the West also told the story of a man moving
his family from the city to the country
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Movie Actor Treat Williams
|
Our
Take
Everwood is a quality family drama that
should prove compatible with lead-in 7th
Heaven. However, 7th Heaven’s success
has not helped the lead-out shows in the past
(including Safe Harbor and Hyperion
Bay). Also, time slot competitor Girls
Club remains an unknown factor
|
|
Expect
to Hear
Dr.
Andrew Brown: “Do you think that’s possible
- that a father and son who don’t get along
can actually have something in common?”
Nurse Edna Wallace: “In my experience, when
a father and son don’t get along it usually
means they’ve got everything in common.”

ABC:

Dragnet returns to Television under the
creative control of Law & Order’s Dick
Wolf
|
|
Just
the Facts - Dragnet’s back
|
|
Familiar
Faces
<<None>>
|
Our
Take
On the plus side, Dick Wolf has a strong track
record with Law & Order, and Dragnet
is a proven entity. However, it is hard
to truly predict what will happen here as ABC
does not have so much as a clip of the new show
|

|
ABC:
Monday at 10:00pm (Hour Drama)
|
|
Premise
After witnessing miracles that could not be
explained by any scientific means, Paul Callan
joins a mysterious organization in investigating
the paranormal
|
|
The
NBC/PAX series Mysterious Ways meets
The X-Files
|
|
Familiar
Faces
Movie Actor Skeet Ulrich, Hector Elizondo (The
Princess Diaries, Pretty Woman, Runaway Bride,
etc.)
|
Our
Take
The 10pm drama audience will most likely already
be committed to C.S.I. Miami and Crossing
Jordan. It is also important to note that
ABC is retooling the pilot to avoid possible
controversy from the religious aspects of the
show
|
|
Expect
to Hear
"I
think miracles are like falling in love. You
never believe it can happen until it happens
to you."
-
Kate Armstrong
