Season Six Episode Guide - Part II

Squeeze Play

Squeeze Play
Airdate: Dec. 17, 1990
MacGyver is returning Frog to Mama Colton (mother of bounty hunters Jesse, Frank and Billy) and ends up chasing a young boy named Ricky, who has stolen the Colton's baseball card collection. The Phoenix troubleshooter catches Ricky but, unfortunately, the young boy has already given the cards to a man named T.J. Mitchell. Mama then "convinces" MacGyver to recover the valuable cards. Therefore, the Phoenix troubleshooter traces the cards to a card shop where he meets a young woman named Wendy Riley. Wendy, who saw the Colton cards given to a man named Eli, then convinces MacGyver that her knowledge of cards and card forgeries will prove invaluable. Reluctantly, MacGyver goes with Wendy and meets her father Novus Riley, a former baseball player that has fallen on hard times. MacGyver then discovers that Novus, who has developed a gambling problem, is in debt and caught in a squeeze play by a man named Bill Marsh. Later, MacGyver once again assumes his Dexter persona (last seen in "Deep Cover") and uses one of Wendy's cards to trace the counterfeit card operation to Marsh. MacGyver then sneaks into Marsh's house and overhears a plan whereby Marsh is forcing Novus to steal the Jackson collection, a collection of Reggie Jackson memorabilia that is being auctioned off for charity. Unfortunately, Marsh's hold over Novus becomes even greater as he soon captures Wendy. MacGyver then goes to Reggie Jackson and the two of them manage to convince Novus to let them help. Novus proceeds with the delivery and MacGyver follows (after using his Dexter identity to get the address of Marsh's warehouse). MacGyver arrives at the warehouse and creates a diversion which allows Novus (and a handy baseball) to capture a fleeing Marsh. Later, Mama announces that her son's cards (worth around $50,000) will be housed in a baseball museum.

Jerico Games
Airdate: Jan. 7, 1991
In the first episode of 1991, MacGyver and Phoenix are handling international security for the Olympic-like Jerico games. After meeting Nikolai Rostov, an athlete scheduled to stay with him, MacGyver sees his former girlfriend Ellen Stewart at the hospitality suite. MacGyver then learns that Ellen, who had been upset 20 years prior when MacGyver broke up with her, is now working in public relations for the JBN (Jerico Broadcast Network). Ellen gives MacGyver a friendly kiss which does not sit well with her husband Ralph Jerico, the head of JBN. MacGyver again crosses paths with Jerico when Ellen comes to him with signs that she was beaten. Later, MacGyver is watching the opening ceremonies of the Jerico Games when he sees someone that looks like him in the audience. MacGyver rushes to the arena but not in time to stop the MacGyver "clone" from shooting and killing Jerico. Nikolai witnesses the "clone" peel off his face but is forced to flee. Unfortunately, MacGyver is soon arrested for the crime committed by his look-alike. MacGyver of course escapes and proceeds to JBN in hopes of finding evidence to clear his name. There he meets Ellen and realizes that she set him up. Ellen then reveals that she still holds a grudge against MacGyver (despite the fact that they were only eighteen when they broke up) and he was therefore the perfect vehicle to cover up her murder of Jerico. Nikolai, who is soon caught by Ellen's accomplice, is brought in and locked in an incinerator with MacGyver. Once again, MacGyver uses his ingenuity and escapes. Ellen is then captured and MacGyver's name is cleared.

The Wasteland
Airdate: Jan. 21, 1991
MacGyver once again fights for an environmental cause as he investigates a "wasteland" that used to be a thriving area before the water table was tampered with. Phoenix scientist Willis, who has to go to Washington, asks MacGyver to take over and convince a man named Andrew Bartlett that the same thing will happen to Maple Ridge if the Bartlett development project is not stopped. Meanwhile, unknown to Bartlett, his children Scott and Laura are planning on taking over the company. MacGyver goes to speak to Bartlett but is instead met by Laura. Then, after Scott arranges for MacGyver to "run" into some trouble with local construction workers, Laura gives him a "friendly" warning. MacGyver, who is obviously not discouraged, goes ahead and continues his investigation by speaking directly to Bartlett. After revealing that there were some irregularities with the EPA study of the area, MacGyver convinces Bartlett to come and look at the wasteland. However, Scott and Laura, who had bribed the EPA investigator, take this opportunity and plant a bomb under MacGyver's Phoenix van. Then, while driving through the wasteland, the bomb goes off and the van is flipped over. MacGyver is unhurt but unfortunately Bartlett is not as lucky. The Phoenix troubleshooter decides to walk to the Phoenix test site and radio for help. Bartlett's children arrive and Scott decides to finish his father off via a gunshot wound. Laura, who was not willing to go this far, intervenes and is shot and killed. MacGyver, who was unable to radio for help so instead jury rigged a glider, then arrives and rescues Bartlett before Scott has a chance to fire another shot. Later, Bartlett calls off the project and arranges for a memorial trust (in memory of Laura) that will be used to fund a family counseling center and hopefully prevent other families from ending up like his.

Eye of Osiris
Airdate: Feb. 4, 1991
In a direct "rip-off" of "Raiders of the Lost Ark," MacGyver relives the bar scene that took place between Karen Allen end Harrison Ford. Only this time, the players are MacGyver and Beth Webb, and instead of dunking shot glasses, Beth plays dice against her adversary. As in "Raiders," something goes wrong, and MacGyver arrives to rescue Beth. MacGyver and Beth then journey to Turkey and join Beth's employer, Professor Axford at Alexander the Great's tomb. Meanwhile, a man named Von Leer (and brother of the Erich Von Leer in "Legend of the Holy Rose") has arrived in Turkey seeking the Eye of Osiris, which can supposedly be found in Alexander's tomb. Unfortunately, Beth, desperately trying to pay off her late mother's debt, has agreed to provide Von Leer with information. As with the numerous other MacGyver/ancient tomb episodes, MacGyver soon finds himself trapped in the tomb with his enemy or in this case, Von Leer. MacGyver, of course, solves the puzzles in the ancient tomb and escapes. Von Leer, fueled by his own greed, is trapped when the tomb caves-in on itself.

However, Dent (last seen in "Harry's Will") has decided to go straight and runs in to MacGyver at just the right time to rescue the Phoenix troubleshooter. Later, While Pete begins to worry about some eye problems, MacGyver decides to help Dent. Although Montana, Dent's parole officer, warns the troubleshooter that Dent will not go straight, MacGyver decides to give Dent a place to stay and finds him a job. Dent's former gang members, however, have other plans and they soon threaten Dent that unless he helps them pull a job, they will frame him for robbing the restaurant that he works at. MacGyver, wondering what has happened, then follows Dent. Dent, MacGyver, and Montana (who had also followed Dent though for less noble reasons than MacGyver's) are soon imprisoned by the gang. In the end, after the gang has been stopped, MacGyver learns that Montana now trusts Dent and even plans on having him as a partner.

There But for the Grace
Airdate: Feb. 18, 1991
Father Jim, a friend of MacGyver's, is running late for a city council meeting. Unfortunately, on his way to the meeting, he is attacked and later hospitalized. After hearing about the attack, MacGyver rushes to the hospital only to hear his friend mutter the words "Danny" and "Doc knows" and then die. MacGyver decides to find out who killed Father Jim and thereby goes undercover as a homeless person and meets Doc. Doc, who was an English teacher before suffering a breakdown and ending up on the street, in turn introduces MacGyver to Danny. Unfortunately, Danny is quite withdrawn, having been dumped by a mental health clinic due to budget cuts, and is reluctant to trust MacGyver. Finally, Danny, who witnessed Father Jim's murder, identifies the killer from a newspaper picture. MacGyver goes to visit Mooney, the man Danny identified, but is arrested by the police due to his appearance. Later, Doc, who has been reviewing Father Jim's files, uncovers proof that the Fox Meadow Home kept receiving money for Danny's care even after Danny was released. MacGyver then realizes that J. Reuter, the home's missing owner, is now using the name Sandler. Realizing that MacGyver is getting close, Sandler then tries to kidnap the troubleshooter but is unsuccessful. Unfortunately, Pete's attempt to meet with Nelson Richardson, who has the tape, does not go according to plan and a courier is killed. Later, Pete can not identify the killer due to his increasing vision problems. Paul Stams, a DXS agent, then visits Phoenix to keep an eye on the operation. However, although Pete had met Samantha twenty years earlier while helping her father as part of a DXS operation, the agency has decided not to get officially involved in the current situation. Therefore, Phoenix operatives Pete and MacGyver go to meet Samantha, who Pete has not seen since Just after his divorce. At this point, MacGyver confronts Pete and learns that his friend is going blind. Later, MacGyver goes to meet Nelson and retrieves the tape but Nelson is killed during the transfer. Unfortunately, while MacGyver takes the tape to JBN, Status reveals his true colors and captures Samantha. MacGyver and Pete follow Status but are captured as well. MacGyver once again dreams up one of his escape plans, however, this time something goes wrong and his hands are burnt. However, before HIT will take him back, he needs to make up for his one failure: MacGyver. Murdoc then captures MacGyver and explains that his sister Ashton (who they both saved in "Halloween Knights") has just died in a skiing accident and he has decided to come out of retirement. The assassin then frees MacGyver and says that the slate is clean: by not killing him, Murdoc has saved MacGyver 's life and thereby all debts are paid. Murdoc then announces that next time he will kill the Phoenix troubleshooter. MacGyver gets into his car and he is heading out of town to lay low. Unfortunately, Murdoc is way ahead of him and a missile is fired at the car. MacGyver escapes but loses his memory. He manages to struggle to the mountain cabin of Suzanne Walker and her daughter Amy. Trial of Tears
Airdate: Apr. 29, 1991
Phoenix scientist Willis is back; this time joining MacGyver in testifying at a trial between Indian lawyer Larry Whitecloud and the New Plains Electric Company. The dispute is concerning the construction of high tension electrical wires which Whitecloud believes pose a danger to the environment. However, as Phoenix has no real proof of the danger and since the lines are being constructed three miles east of Indian property, New Plains Electric (N.P.E.) wins the trial. Whitecloud storms off and then meets up with an elderly Indian named Standing Wolf, who convince him, via a vision, to take action. Meanwhile, N.P.E. has decided that MacGyver should be eliminated before he can probe too deeply. Later, MacGyver meets up with Whitecloud just after the Indian lawyer plants an explosive. N.P.E. security men then try to kill MacGyver, who flees into the woods with Whitecloud. After discovering that Bill Crowe, Whitecloud's friend, has been killed by the N.P.E. men, Whitecloud storms off to kill Johnson, the head of N.P.E. Unfortunately, MacGyver is shot and critically wounded. The Phoenix troubleshooter, who is cared for by Standing Wolf, then experiences the same vision that Whitecloud did. However, MacGyver realizes that it is not a vision of revenge but rather a warning against violence. The vision also reveals the real location of Black Stream and the border of Indian territory. A healed MacGyver then awakens and finds a map that confirms that the electrical wire site is actually on Indian territory. MacGyver soon catches up with Whitecloud and disarms another one of the lawyer's bombs. Then, he manages to convince Whitecloud not to kill Johnson. Later, a Phoenix investigation confirms the location of the stream and turns up evidence that N.P.E. was aware that they were building on Indian land.

Hind-Sight
Airdate: May 6, 1991
In this compilation episode, Pete and MacGyver recall past adventures (via scenes from previous episodes) while Pete prepares for an eye operation. Then, when Pete starts to receive strange perfumed coated letters that appear to be threats, the remembrances switch to incidents when women threatened Pete's life. Later, MacGyver's fears are calmed when the letter writer turns out to be Connie, Pete's ex-wife (last seen played by Penelope Windust in the second season episode "Family Matter"). Despite her past problems with Pete, Connie has decided to be with him during this difficult time. An additional plot point involves Pete's attempted resignation. However, MacGyver manages to "misplace" the resignation letter until after Pete reconsiders his decision. Note: In this episode, Connie reveals that she divorced Pete when she lost him to the Phoenix Foundation. This statement is contradictory as Pete did not join Phoenix until the second season (four years earlier) whereas "Blind Faith" revealed that Pete was divorced twenty years earlier.
