As
the penultimate season begins, a series of bombings
have recently gone off upsetting a number of
drug operations. Meanwhile, MacGyver is looking
into the S.E.L.F. teen help program with his
friend Anthony M. "Manny" Lopez, a police officer
and S.E.L.F. volunteer. However, MacGyver feels
that R. J. Hines, a S.E.L.F. karate teacher,
is being too tough with the teens. After witnessing
Hines "performance," MacGyver then believes
that there is a connection between the drug
bombings, Hines, and S.E.L.F. teens that belong
to the Tough Boys street gang. Unfortunately,
while investigating his theory, MacGyver is
captured by the Tough Boys and left in a building
with a bomb set to explode. After escaping from
the building, MacGyver speaks to Hines and learns
that Manny is really behind the Tough Boy bombings
(in response to his daughter having died from
drugs). Manny attempts to lock up MacGyver and
Hines but, of course, they escape. MacGyver
soon finds Manny on a drug dealers yacht that
has been wired with explosives. Fortunately,
MacGyver manages to convince Manny not to blow
up the boat.

MacGyver
and Pete are in Bucharest, Romania as part of
a Phoenix project to investigate the files of
Ceausescu, Romania's dead dictator. Unfortunately,
the Phoenix employees find themselves under
attack by terrorists led by Major Krik, a man
still loyal to the late Ceausescu. MacGyver
disarms a bomb left behind and then follows
Victor, one of the terrorists. However, MacGyver
is captured by Victor, who is soon bitten by
a snake. MacGyver then surprises Victor when
he stays behind and helps him. Krik soon arrives
and takes custody of MacGyver. Victor, who has
started questioning his philosophy, responds
to MacGyver's earlier kindness by helping the
troubleshooter to escape. Later, when MacGyver
is once again captured by Krik, Victor rescues
him but is critically injured. Finally, having
learned the concept of "humanity" from MacGyver,
Victor realizes the futility of his philosophy.
Therefore, since he knows no other life, he
grabs Krik and uses a hand grenade to kill them
both.

When
Challenger club teen Breeze (last seen in "The
Madonna") fails to show up at an environmental
fair, MacGyver begins to worry. MacGyver's concerns
soon prove justified for Breeze has been involved
in an incident in which a police officer was
shot. MacGyver arrives on the scene and Breeze
explains that he had inadvertently walked into
an illegal gun transaction that went sour. However,
since there is no sign of the real shooter,
Breeze is arrested for the crime. Meanwhile,
a man named Zamoral has hired arms dealer Maddox
to obtain the infamous Harrison gun, a weapon
that had been used to kill a senator named Harrison
among others. Therefore, since the gun in Breeze's
shooting incident was the Harrison gun, Maddox
arranges for the youth's bail. Breeze is then
taken back to Maddox's warehouse. Fortunately,
MacGyver arrives and rescues Breeze. Later,
searching for evidence to clear Breeze's name,
MacGyver traces the Harrison gun to a woman
named Laura Fowler and learns that her brother
Todd was involved in the shooting. At the same
time, Todd has contacted Maddox and arranged
to sell the gun. Therefore, MacGyver soon finds
himself kidnapped with Laura, who is being held
as "insurance" during the gun exchange. As always,
MacGyver uses his ingenuity and escapes. Then,
in a case of poetic Justice, Zamoral dies with
the Harrison gun in his hand. Prompted by MacGyver
and Laura, the police gun policy (to sell confiscated
weapons in order to make money) is changed.
A new gun melting policy is started beginning
with the infamous Harrison gun.

Lisa
Woodman (last seen in "Hearts of Steel") is
once again featured in this episode about alcoholism:
Lisa, who has developed a drinking problem,
has been hanging around with an older gang of
teens. MacGyver becomes involved in Lisa's problem
when she calls him after being arrested for
robbery. (The older teens have been pulling
the crimes with an intoxicated Lisa tagging
along.) After giving Lisa a "twenty questions"
test, MacGyver confirms that she has a drinking
problem (as a result of her parents incessant
fighting). Later, MacGyver, having connected
Lisa's "friends" and the burglaries, tries to
get information from gang member Holly. Holly,
who has come to like Lisa, explains her concern
that the gang will hurt the young girl. MacGyver
also learns that gang member Brett's father
owns a travel service which has been used to
find out what houses will be empty. In the meantime,
Brett has decided to eliminate witness Lisa.
MacGyver stops Brett and rescues Lisa, who almost
dies when a car she has been left in nearly
goes off a cliff. Later, MacGyver is happy to
learn that Lisa will be getting help for her
problem.

As
a favor to a store owner named Otto Romburg,
MacGyver goes to East Germany to find Maria,
Otto's granddaughter. Maria, who has previously
believed that Otto deserted her when he escaped
from East Germany many years earlier, is at
first reluctant but finally decides to come
back to the United States. However, unknown
to MacGyver, his meeting with Maria is observed
by ex-Stasi agents who are seeking gold that
Otto had taken. (Before the German wall came
down, Otto was forced by Stasi agents to transport
the gold or Maria would be killed.) Back in
the United States, MacGyver begins to suspect
whether or not Maria is really Otto's granddaughter
after she uses a "professional" move to stop
one of the Stasi agents from hurting Otto. The
good news is that -Maria, who was forced into
becoming a Stasi agent back in East Germany,
is really Otto's granddaughter. The bad news
is that Maria, Otto and MacGyver are soon captured
by the ex-Stasi agents. Of course, MacGyver
soon frees them and stops the ex-Stasi agents.
Later, Maria decides to join the Phoenix Foundation.
Note: Maria was introduced as a potential
love interest for MacGyver. However, after protest
from female viewers (who want MacGyver to remain
"available"), all plans for a relationship were
dropped. Maria would only appear in one more
episode ("MacGyver's Woman").

When
Dr. Marion Skinner tries to prove that Dr. Zito
(last seen in "Deadly Dreams") is no longer
insane, MacGyver and Lt. Kate Murphy are quick
to testify to the contrary. Judge Ruth O'Dell
considers both sides (including the fact that
Cross, Zito's pawn, committed suicide) and then
rules that Zito is still quite insane. Unfortunately,
Zito soon escapes by killing his two guards.
Zito then begins to give MacGyver a "lesson
in evil" by leaving behind numeric clues for
the Phoenix troubleshooter. Next, Zito kidnaps
Pete. MacGyver and Murphy (following additional
clues) soon find Pete. In the process, however,
Murphy is caught in an explosion and hospitalized.
MacGyver then solves the next set of Zito's
clues and realizes that the killer has kidnapped
Skinner. Zito, anticipating MacGyver's progress,
contacts the troubleshooter with the final exam:
to find "sanctuary" in one hour. MacGyver, based
on the clues and what Pete recalls from his
ordeal, locates the sanctuary, captures Zito,
and rescues Skinner. Later, Murphy recovers
and Zito is put back in prison. In a final chilling
scene, Zito secretly pulls something out from
under a false layer of skin.

In
this rather atypical episode, MacGyver's crosses
paths with a number of guest stars (including
an un-credited Henry Winkler, the show's executive
producer): The "kooky" story begins in the law
offices of William Newberry (Winkler) where
MacGyver has come in order to hear his grandfather
Harry's will. MacGyver is pleased to learn that
his inheritance is his grandfather's car. The
troubleshooter then picks up Harry's Nomad and
meets up with Cody, an elderly ex-con who was
Harry's friend. However, motorcycle gang members
Dent and Big Mama have been following Cody and
they soon arrive and steal the car. Later, after
recovering the car, MacGyver and Cody are captured
and interrogated by Dent. MacGyver then learns
the reason for Dent's persistence: He is looking
for a $1 million dollar pendant that Cody had
stolen and left with a reproaching Harry. MacGyver
and Cody escape and go to visit Sister Robin,
who has a package from Harry. Inside the package,
they discover the pendant. Dent then arrives
and steals the pendant. However, MacGyver realizes
that Dent actually stole a "fake" pendant. Following
clues left by Harry (that were meant to teach
Cody a lesson), MacGyver and Cody soon find
the real pendant under the goal post on a hockey
rink. Then, Dent and Bad Mama arrive at the
rink with Sister Robin as a hostage. However,
Dent soon becomes merely a nuisance when Biff
Arnold, the pendant's original owner, enters
the rink and threatens Cody at gunpoint. Fortunately,
Arnold, who no longer legally owns the pendant,
is clearly insane and MacGyver has no trouble
convincing him to give up his gun. Later, Cody,
having learned his lesson from Harry, donates
the money from the pendant to sister Robin in
order to help feed the poor.

MacGyver
once again wages his continuing war against
"commitment" when he considers his relationship
with Maria Romburg ("The Wall"). In fact, the
troubleshooter finds himself cornered on the
question by Maria, Kate Murphy ("Deadly Dreams"/"Lesson
in Evil"), and former runaway Jennifer (played
by a different actress than in "Runaways").
Therefore, MacGyver retreats to his bedroom
and is soon dreaming about the wild west and,
once again, the town of Serenity: MacGyver,
the man who does not wear a gun, offers assistance
when Kate, who is running a mail order bride
service, is hassled by Wilt and Milt Bozer.
The problem: mail order brides Maria and Jennifer
are somewhat disgusted by the Bozer brothers.
Therefore, with MacGyver's help, Kate decides
to take Maria and Jennifer to Last Gulch. Unfortunately,
outlaw Kid Curry, Kate's former boyfriend, is
also seeking the group and Jenny and Kate are
soon captured. MacGyver, who was left to die
by hanging, escapes and meets up with Maria,
who was away from camp when the other girls
were caught. Meanwhile, Curry has also captured
the Bozers, who have been lying and claiming
that they struck gold. The western MacGyver,
being as inventive as his modern counterpart,
soon rescues Kate, Jennifer and, reluctantly,
the Bozers. MacGyver then awakens from his dream
and decides that he would like to develop a
relationship with Maria. However, Maria is going
away on a Phoenix mission so their discussion
will have to wait. (Of course, as previously
mentioned, the producers decided not to pursue
anything between MacGyver and Maria.)

As
this episode begins, MacGyver, innocently driving
through the town of Kasabian, suffers car troubles
and ends up in the middle of a dispute between
Kasabian, a major grower, and protesting workers.
Unfortunately, the protest escalates and the
workers and MacGyver are arrested. In prison,
MacGyver meets and befriends protest leader
Tony Garcia. The workers are soon released and
Garcia offers MacGyver a place to stay for the
night. However, on their way to Garcia's house,
their car is forced off the road. After splitting
up, MacGyver is caught and knocked unconscious
but not before hearing a gun shot. The next
morning, MacGyver awakens in Garcia's home.
He meets Carmen, Garcia's, wife and learns that
Garcia is missing and believed to be dead. Later,
after Garcia's brother-in-law Silva is refused
a job, MacGyver goes into the fields disguised
as a worker. Once there, he finds the truck
that ran them off the road. Hector Lopez, the
foreman, then fires MacGyver out of fear that
the Phoenix troubleshooter's interference will
create problems for him and his family. Meanwhile,
Nick Kasabian, the grower's son who has been
using illegal chemicals, decides to kill MacGyver.
Soon, after MacGyver stops Silva from sabotaging
Kasabian's operation, Nick arrives and locks
the two in a tank. As always, MacGyver escapes.
Then, Lopez arrives and plans on killing Nick
since the younger Kasabian murdered Garcia.
Before Lopez can carry out his revenge, the
elder Kasabian (who was unaware of either the
illegal pesticides or the murders) arrives with
the police. Later, Garcia's body is discovered
and the elder Kasabian announces his plans to
stop using pesticides.

MacGyver
is in Elms Creek County investigating the hot
springs when he sees an unidentified flying
object. He goes to take a look at the site but
is knocked unconscious by a man in a silver
suit. After awakening, he discovers that his
car's electrical system is shot so he uses a
farmer named John Wiley's phone. The next day,
MacGyver is trying to investigate the supposed
landing site but the sheriff warns him that
he is trespassing. As MacGyver drives away,
he notices Tommy Wiley, John's son, in his back
seat. Tommy then explains that he needs MacGyver's
help in preventing his parents from going to
another planet with a couple named Rigel. Therefore,
MacGyver goes to speak to Ray and Sarah Riley.
However, the Rigel's refuse to speak to a non-believing
MacGyver. Later, MacGyver sneaks into the Rigel's
trailer and obtains information that the strange
couple are behind the UFO hoax. The Phoenix
troubleshooter is almost discovered but manages
to escape when a vacuum cleaner salesman named
Phil shows up and distracts the Rigels. MacGyver
then goes to the sheriff with his proof. Unfortunately,
John Wiley (prompted by the Rigels) has filled
out a complaint against MacGyver, who is in
turn arrested. Fortunately, Phil once again
shows up and bails MacGyver out of jail. MacGyver
and Phil, who always seems to show up at just
the right time, then team up and decide to go
to Wiley with proof that the Rigels are con-artists.
They arrive just in time to see the Rigels threatening
the Wiley's. Therefore, MacGyver creates another
fake UFO which distracts the Rigels. After the
Rigels have been safely apprehended, MacGyver
can find no sign of Phil. Then, the Wiley's
and MacGyver are startled to see another UFO
fly by which makes the Phoenix troubleshooter
wonder who Phil really was.
