An
exhausted MacGyver, angry with Pete for committing
him to an assignment without asking first, settles
down to watch some westerns and soon falls fast
asleep. The episode then proceeds to reveal
MacGyver's dream: It is the old west and MacGyver,
who has Just returned from the Civil War, has
decided to forego using a gun and to settle
in the town of Serenity. Entering the Red Dog
Saloon, he soon finds himself rescuing waitress
Penny Parker from the Bozer brothers. He then
meets up with gambler Jack Dalton and purchases
the Big Springs Ranch. Later, MacGyver is at
the ranch (with employees Wing Lee and Billy
Colton) when fellow rancher Pete Thornton arrives
and insists that MacGyver sell the ranch. MacGyver
refuses and Thornton storms off. Thornton then
hires a gunfighter named Murdoc to stop MacGyver.
Murdoc begins by approaching the ranch and murdering
Billy when MacGyver is in town. Thornton, who
never intended for Murdoc to do anything more
than threaten, apologizes to MacGyver and explains
that he was desperate for the water on the Big
Springs Ranch. MacGyver agrees to let Pete use
the water for free and the two then decide to
work together to stop Murdoc. Meanwhile, Murdoc,
who plans on killing MacGyver despite Pete's
objections, has kidnapped Penny. MacGyver uses
his ingenuity and tries to save Penny. Unfortunately,
Murdoc shoots MacGyver, who then awakens. Pete
sees his friend wake up and apologizes for not
asking first about the mission. Pete then finds
a wooden version of MacGyver's Swiss army knife
which is strange as this knife was part of the
dream.

This
episode finds MacGyver at Dillard High as part
of a Phoenix education project to reduce the
drop out rate. Mrs. Juarez, the school's principal,
supports the program, however, teacher George
Fraley believes that it is doomed to failure.
In order to prove Fraley wrong, Juarez assigns
him as one of the two mentors to try to help
student Tony Molani. MacGyver, the other mentor,
manages to temporarily keep Tony in school despite
the objections of Nick Molani, Tony's construction
worker father. MacGyver's victory proves short
lived for Tony soon drops out when Nick gets
his son a job as a construction worker. Tony
begins work and then finds himself in an awkward
position when he overhears the foreman bribing
a safety inspector. Afterwards, Tony finds a
copy of the discarded safety report and shows
it to his father. Nick briefly looks at the
paper and throws it in the fire. That night,
Tony is arrested for breaking into the high
school. MacGyver intervenes and learns that
Tony was looking for a device to test the safety
of the building materials when his father refused
to help. MacGyver then explains how Tony should
not be to mad as Nick, who appears to be illiterate,
was not able to read the report.. Tony soon
recovers the burnt report and MacGyver reconstructs
it. The next day, the construction site collapses
and traps Nick underneath. MacGyver uses his
ingenuity and frees Nick. As a result of what
has happened, Nick agrees to learn how to read
(with Fraley as his teacher) and Tony returns
to school.

MacGyver,
who worked as a logger in Oregon during summers
back in college, finds himself once again involved
in the logging business when he tries to find
out why a timber summit was cancelled. Upon
arriving, he bails his old friend Amy Chandler
out of Jail after she is arrested for blocking
a logging truck. MacGyver then learns that Amy
believes that Foxworth, the head of the logging
operation, is illegally exporting public logs.
Furthermore, she feels that a choker man named
Lopez was killed for getting to close to the
operation. MacGyver, responding to her concern,
decides to go undercover as the new choker man.
Unfortunately, Reddock, one of Foxworth's drivers,
had seen MacGyver meet with Amy and the Phoenix
troubleshooter's equipment is sabotaged. Jack
Chandler, the logging foreman and Amy's estranged
husband, realizing that MacGyver's almost "accidental"
death was no accident, agrees to help. In order
to get additional evidence, MacGyver jumps on
the back of Reddock's truck and is taken to
where the illegal logs are transferred. Meanwhile,
Jack has joined Amy and the two figure out where
Foxworth is transferring the logs and go to
investigate. Unfortunately, Foxworth captures
them. MacGyver, who has escaped detection, soon
frees the Chandlers and then is forced to fight
Glass, the man who is smuggling the logs. Glass
soon falls to his death and the police then
arrive and arrest Foxworth. As MacGyver prepares
to leave town, he is happy to learn that the
timber summit is back on and the Chandlers are
working on their problem.

This
episode finds MacGyver in Lima, Peru at the
request of his old friend Maria, who is seeking
the lost Treasure of Manco (and hoping to give
the money to the people of Peru). Unfortunately,
the last person seeking the treasure, Maria's
archeologist father, was murdered in the mountains.
MacGyver is somewhat surprised when a Peruvian
army captain named Diez informs him that Maria's
father was killed by Enriquez, a mountain rebel
who had gone to school with MacGyver and Maria.
MacGyver, Maria and their guide Ramon (whose
father was killed with Maria's) begin their
search for the treasure. The group is soon attacked
and Maria's only clue to the treasure, an Inca
headpiece, is stolen. Later, the trio run into
Enriquez and are captured when Ramon tries to
kill the rebel. They then learn that Diez is
the killer and not Enriquez, Fortunately, Enriquez's
men had captured the headpiece from one of Diez's
death squads, so, the search for the treasure
continues. They arrive at the site of the treasure,
The Garden of Gold, and find themselves cornered
by Diez. MacGyver releases the treasure, which
was corn and not gold, and creates a distraction
which allows them to capture Diez. Later, MacGyver
learns that Diez will be tried for his crimes
and Enriquez will continue to fight for the
people but in a less radical way.

MacGyver
and Jack Dalton return from a trip and are greeted
by a frantic phone message from Jenny Larson,
whose father was recently killed. Jenny believes
that the elder Larson was killed by a man named
George Henderson, who has been fixing horse
races so MacGyver and Phoenix decide to help
her. Pete then goes to Henderson disguised as
Harry Boyle, a man trying to buy a horse named
Jenny's Chance. After the meeting, Henderson's
henchman Mick follows Pete/Boyle back to a (Phoenix
created) gambling operation in the Derby Grill.
Once there, Mick observes Pete/Boyle meet with
MacGyver, who is disguised as a computer geek
named Dexter. The henchman then "overhears"
a discussion about a sound emitting device that
drives horses crazy. (Since, Jenny's Chance
is deaf, she will prove invaluable in races
where the device is used to upset the other
horses.) Meanwhile, The FBI has captured Carlos
"Lucky Charlie" Rodriguez, a drug dealer who
has been laundering Henderson's money. Therefore,
as Henderson has never met Lucky Charlie face
to face, Jack is able to assume Charlie's identity
for a meeting with Henderson. Soon, Henderson,
taking the hook, meets with Pete/Boyle and sets
up a deal to launder Charlie's money through
Boyle's gambling operation. Unfortunately, Lucky
Charlie soon escapes and Jack is captured when
he goes to meet Henderson and the "real" Charlie
is there. Charlie, Jack and Henderson go to
the Derby Grill and Charlie discovers that it
is all a setup. Henderson panics, pulls a gun,
and shoots Jack. Then, the FBI come out from
hiding and reveal that they have taped the preceding
events and that they now have enough information
to convict Henderson. Charlie then peels away
his face and reveals himself as MacGyver. (He
had pretended to be Charlie in order to save
Jack in case Henderson heard about Lucky Charlie's
escape). Fortunately, Jack is unharmed and Henderson
is arrested.

MacGyver
and Pete are working on E.R.M.A. , a Phoenix
project that will allow the DEA to construct
stealth resistant submarines in order to track
drug dealers. Unfortunately, the drug cartel,
fearing the effect E.R.M.A. will have on their
business, has hired a man named Nick Landis
to steal the device. Landis has already put
his plan in motion and is dating Gwen Carpenter,
the project's designer. Therefore, Landis obtains
the information he needs and successfully steals
E.R.M.A. Unfortunately for Landis (but fortunately
for Phoenix), Banniker, Landis's computer expert
is captured during the theft. MacGyver, once
again using his Dexter (computer geek) identity,
is placed in the same cell as Banniker. Since
Banniker can not make bail, Landis hires supposed
computer thief Dexter/MacGyver, who can make
bail. Gwen, who has been captured, is taken
to Landis who explains that he is being forced
to help the cartel. Hoping to help her "boyfriend,"
Gwen then goes back to Phoenix and steals the
E.R.M.A. disk for Landis. Unfortunately, when
she returns, she accidentally blows MacGyver's
cover. Landis then leaves MacGyver to drown
in an underwater submarine. Fortunately, MacGyver
soon escapes with the help of Pete. MacGyver
and Pete then locate Landis with the help of
Gwen's address book. The cartel members and
Landis are captured and Gwen is freed. Later,
the E.R.M.A. system is successfully tested.

Lisa Woodman (last seen in the episode "Cease
Fire") is shopping in the mall with her friend
Ingrid. Unfortunately, Ingrid, who has switched
jackets with Lisa, is kidnapped and Lisa is
locked in a supply room. The kidnappers then
contact Eric Woodman and demand three million
in cash in exchange for her safe return. Lisa
is soon located and Woodman's maid, Gretta,
realizes that it is her daughter Ingrid that
was kidnapped. Woodman proceeds with the ransom
drop (so that the kidnappers do not suspect
that they have the wrong girl) and Ingrid is
freed. Unfortunately, the crooks, having realized
their mistake, kidnap Lisa when the police are
at the drop. Woodman then agrees to pay the
ransom. Meanwhile, MacGyver has figured out
that a man named Travers, who is seeking revenge
against Woodman for closing a steel mill, is
the kidnapper. MacGyver then arrives at the
closed steal mill just as Woodman arrives with
the ransom. Travers tries to kill Woodman but
MacGyver convinces the former steel executive
not to. Later, at Lisa's urging, Woodman looks
into reopening the mill and returning jobs to
the workers that were fired.

MacGyver,
serving as a juror, finds himself involved in
a trial against Curtis Danby, who is accused
of murdering a woman named Lisa Robbins and
wounding her husband Wyatt Robbins, Unfortunately,
the trail has created a great deal of racial
unrest since Danby, a black man, is convicted
of murdering a white woman. MacGyver, dissatisfied
with the evidence presented in court, breaks
sequester and goes to the sight of the crime.
Once there, he realizes that there was not enough
light for Wyatt to have seen Danby. Furthermore,
he meets Belinda Jones, an eccentric woman known
as the Bird Lady, who witnessed the crime. Based
on the Bird Lady's information, MacGyver even
locates the murder weapon. The next day, the
defense calls the Bird Lady as a witness and
she testifies that the killer was a bald man
and not Danby (who has a full head of hair).
The judge demands to know how the defense got
their information and MacGyver's violation is
uncovered. As a result, MacGyver is found in
contempt and thrown off the jury. Later, after
The Bird Lady is found dead, MacGyver goes to
see Wyatt. Since Wyatt had been having an affair
with a woman named Sandra Masters, the police
then decide that he killed his own wife. However,
MacGyver believes that Wyatt (who only identified
Danby because the police were so sure) is innocent.
The two soon go to Master's hardware store and
see Groden, a bald man who matches the Bird
Lady's description. Wyatt then confronts Masters,
who admits that she killed his wife so that
she could be with him. After a struggle. MacGyver
and Wyatt capture Masters and Groden. Later,
MacGyver criticizes a television reporter for
causing all of the racial problems.
