Penny
Parker contacts MacGyver when, on her 25'th
birthday, she inherits her Aunt Betty's estate.
MacGyver and Penny are soon greeted by Sylvia
Lange, who provides them with keys to Aunt Betty's
supposedly haunted house. That night, a lightning
bolt strikes the ground by the house and unearths
a dead body. While investigating the situation,
Sheriff Cliff Howels reveals that the body may
be Penny's aunt, who mysteriously disappeared
thirty years prior. MacGyver reconstructs the
skeleton's face and confirms that the body belongs
to Betty, whose face is the spitting image of
Penny's. Penny is kidnapped, however, MacGyver
locates her and her kidnapper in the basement
of the house. He learns that the kidnapper,
Virgil Lange, is Sylvia's mentally disabled
brother. Sylvia and the sheriff arrive and explain
how Sylvia has kept Virgil hidden in the house
ever since she has suspected that her brother
killed Betty. However, MacGyver's research has
turned up the fact that Betty, who had gone
insane by drinking moonshine alcohol laced with
lead, was actually killed by the sheriff. In
order to protect his career, Howels had needed
to cover up the fact that Betty was pregnant
with his illegitimate baby. The sheriff locks
MacGyver, Penny, Virgil and Sylvia in the basement
and rigs the moonshine operation so that it
will explode. MacGyver then takes advantage
of the still's pressure and uses it to blow
a hole in one of the walls. As a result of the
explosion, the sheriff is killed by a pole with
Betty's initials on it.

This episode, which takes place in MacGyver's
hometown of Mission City, Minnesota and explains
the reasons behind his deep hatred of guns,
tells two stories. The first story takes place
in the present and has MacGyver returning home
to honor a pledge he made twenty-five years
ago. He meets up with his now grown childhood
friends: Chuck, who now owns a hunting store,
and Neil Ryder, a police officer. Meanwhile,
Neil's son Shawn has become involved with drugs
and Danny, Chuck's son, tries to help but instead
ends up aggravating a drug dealer. MacGyver
soon sees Danny steal a gun and follows the
youth to an abandoned school. Unfortunately,
the drug dealer was expecting company and Danny
is shot. MacGyver stops the drug dealers and
then gets Danny to an ambulance in time to save
the teen's life. The second story takes place
25 years earlier. MacGyver and his friends Neil,
Chuck, and Jesse are playing with a gun. However,
one of the children starts to shoot a bird.
MacGyver, not wanting to see an innocent bird
killed, tries to stop his friend. The gun then
misfires and Jesse is shot. MacGyver attempts
to save Jesse's life but, unlike the parallel
innocent 25 years later, he is unsuccessful
and his friend dies. Back in the present, MacGyver,
Chuck, and Neil unearth a time capsule that
the childhood friends planted 25 years earlier.

"Witness"
meets the story of Baby Jessica: MacGyver is
driving through Pennsylvania when a tire blows
out and his car goes off the road. Fortunately,
the injured troubleshooter is rescued and cared
for by an Amish family. Meanwhile, the Amish
community is building a well. However, this
draws the ire of the Wrightman Construction
company as the Amish have been ordered off the
land. MacGyver then learns from Wrightman that
the government has legally confiscated the land
although John, the leader of the Amish community,
refuses to acknowledge the "Englander" decision.
Steven, a construction worker, then decides
to move the construction project along by blowing
up the well. Christy, Wrightman's daughter,
runs over to help Jacob, a young Amish boy,
and falls into the well. (Jacob and Christy
had been playing despite the fact that their
families have opposing philosophies.) MacGyver,
with the help of both the Amish and Wrightman's
crew, manages to free Christy. (Of course, this
episode, also includes the obligatory Amish
subplot about William, the "shunned" man who
redeems himself.) After the rescue, Wrightman
announces that he will recommend that the project
be moved away from Amish land. Furthermore,
John decides to discuss the matter at a planning
meeting.

At the Westwood Springs Race Course, MacGyver
and Phoenix are helping Jeff Stone develop an
environmentally safe, all-plastic engine. However,
a man named Strickland, who is pushing his own
(non-plastic) engine, would prefer if Stone
fails. MacGyver, who is somewhat hesitant to
be involved in racing again as eight years previously
he was in a racing accident that killed a fellow
driver, is concerned when he discovers that
Strickland's driver is Hans Visser, the man
responsible for his race car accident . MacGyver's
concerns prove correct for Jeff is injured and
blinded when the plastic engine blows out during
the qualifying round. After examining the engine
(and reviewing news footage of the race), MacGyver
finds out that the car was sabotaged by O'Malley,
a member of Jeff's crew. Unfortunately, Visser
and Strickland kill O'Malley before MacGyver
has a chance to investigate further. The race
day arrives and MacGyver, putting aside his
fears, drives the Phoenix car and wins the race.
Afterwards, all loose ends are tied up when
Pete provides evidence implicating Strickland
and Visser in O'Malley's murder and Jeff regains
his sight.

scatterbrained friend Penny Parker has just
received her first big acting break: the starring
role in the musical "Cleo Rocks." And as the
