Kill Zone

MacGyver is sent to recover a capsule containing a deadly organism. The capsule was lost when a satellite containing it crashed to earth. MacGyver recovers the capsule and discovers that the organism has killed all life in the area. Unfortunately, MacGyver's radio goes out but he is able to rig a radio out of the fallen satellite. Thereby, he barely escapes before the military implements project "Firestorm" and firebombs the area (in order to kill any traces of the organism). Back at a Phoenix lab, Dr. Sandra Milhouse, who had illegally smuggled her organism aboard the satellite, is told to destroy all traces of it. Not wanting to destroy her experiment, she keeps a sample of the organism. An accident in the lab exposes her to the organism and she dies of old age. MacGyver and Pete barely escape the lab before it self destructs as part of a containment program.

Early Retirement
Airdate: Jan. 18, 1988
Pete is spearheading a Phoenix project to disarm nuclear weapons. When an accident on the project critically injures some Phoenix employees, Pete blames himself and resigns. Pete's replacement is Matt Webber, who is working on security for the visit of Minister Amunde. Webber, who does not think that the United States should be talking to people like former anti-American subversive Amunde, is conspiring with two crooked government agents to kill the minister. MacGyver and Nikki discover that the accident at the disarmament site was actually sabotage and Nikki reports the incident to Webber. Webber takes her captive in order to cover his tracks and then his men proceed to attack and capture Amunde's train. MacGyver and Pete arrive, free Nikki and Amunde, and bring Webber to Justice. Pete, who plans on taking a well deserved vacation, is reinstated as Phoenix Director of Operations.

Thin Ice
Airdate: Feb. 1, 1988
MacGyver is in Minnesota helping out Turk Donner, his former high school coach, by coaching the Raiders, a high school hockey team. Derek Kirby, the team's best player, plays too rough for MacGyver's taste. However, MacGyver believes Kirby is Olympic material and intends to turn the kid around. On the other hand, Derek's father wants his son to sign with a professional team. Derek decides to play the next game MacGyver's way but changes his style when a scout from the Mustangs, a professional team known for playing rough, tells him to "bash heads" or lose his chance to play for their team. Derek plays rough and in the process another player is injured. The next day, the Mustangs make an offer and Derek accepts. MacGyver, concerned for Derek's future, convinces the boy to play one last game with the Raiders. Derek plays MacGyver's way and the Raiders win. A scout from the Olympics witnesses Derek's performance in the game and offers him a spot on Team USA. Derek's father comes to accept his son's decision to play on an Olympic team.

The Odd Triple
Airdate: Feb. 29, 1988
Jack Dalton is back complicating MacGyver's life. This time, Jack involves his friend in a plan to transport a heiress. Elena, the heiress, has Just purchased an expensive set of Jewels, and needs pilots to fly her back to France. Elena, MacGyver and Jack are about to take-off in Elena's plane when a group of men start to storm the plane. MacGyver distracts the men and the trio successfully lifts off. After landing in France, Elena Jumps onto a helicopter and instructs Jack and MacGyver that their payment will arrive shortly. Instead, the police arrive and arrest MacGyver and Jack for stealing the Jewels. Furthermore, They learn that the woman they flew was an imposter and that the men MacGyver stopped were not thieves but rather the real Elena's security men. MacGyver, realizing that the police are not interested in his side of the story, breaks himself and Jack out of prison in order to clear their names. Based on the amount of time that it took "Elena's" helicopter to arrive, MacGyver is able to figure out her destination: a local winery. While investigating the winery, MacGyver is captured. However, Jack escapes and meets up with Pete, who has flown to France to help his friend. Jack and Pete pose as potential buyers and head to the winery to negotiate a deal for the stolen diamonds. Unfortunately, Pete's cover is blown. Meanwhile, Elena is locked up with MacGyver when she opposes a killing. MacGyver escapes and meets up with Jack. The duo free Pete and capture the diamond thieves.

The Negotiator
Airdate:Mar. 7, 1988
MacGyver, investigating whether or not a development project will have a negative impact on the local environment, is approached by Remick, the project's developer, and offered a thinly disguised bribe to conclude that the project will cause no problems. MacGyver obviously refuses the bribe and then testifies that he needs more time to study the situation. He receives the additional time. When further threats against MacGyver fail, Knapp, Remick's boss, hires a negotiator in order to guarantee that MacGyver will no longer be a problem. Deborah, the negotiator, Joins MacGyver's art class and eventually becomes the troubleshooter's girlfriend. Under the guise of "loving" advice, Deborah tells MacGyver to play it safe by heeding Remick's threats and stopping the environmental study. MacGyver proceeds with the study and Deborah responds by planting a bomb in his boat. MacGyver survives the explosion but is temporarily blinded. Pete and Nikki figure out that Deborah planted the bomb but it is too late as the negotiator has already taken MacGyver to an abandoned warehouse in order to kill him. MacGyver catches on to Deborah's true nature and, while slowly regaining his vision, uses the items in the warehouse to stop the negotiator. An imprisoned Deborah testifies against the developers in order to get a reduced sentence.

The Spoilers
Airdate: Mar. 14, 1988
MacGyver is investigating polluted streams when he witnesses a hermit struggling with a couple of men. He soon learns that the hermit, a mountain recluse known as "Earthquake," had attacked the men when the toxic waste they were dumping killed his dog. Although the dumpers escape, Pete is able to figure out who is behind the illegal dumpings: Martin Farber. MacGyver and Earthquake go undercover into Farber's plant and Earthquake recognizes the dumper. Farber successfully bypasses the legal system when Earthquake, who has become a recluse due to his horrible temper, is tricked into losing his cool in court. Farber further discredits Earthquake when he has one of his men kill the dumper and frame the hermit for the murder. Earthquake resists arrest and storms over to the chemical plant only to be caught by Farber. MacGyver arrives, rescues Earthquake, and obtains evidence that incriminates Farber. As the episode ends, MacGyver visits Earthquake and provides him with a new dog.

Mask of the Wolf

MacGyver once again finds himself involved with Jack Dalton when he agrees to help his friend accompany Two Eagles, an elderly Native American, locate a legendary wolf mask. Two Eagles feels that his time has past and wants to locate the mask in order to speak to the great wolf spirit one final time. Unfortunately, while researching the location of the mask, MacGyver and Jack are overheard by two mercenaries who intend to steal the mask for themselves. Thereby, the mercenaries kidnap Two Eagles. MacGyver and Jack follow their friend and, along the way, receive some help from Anna Lightfoot. Two Eagles locates the cave and the mercenaries steal the mask. MacGyver and Jack arrive at the cave only to be sealed in with Two Eagles. MacGyver and Jack escape from the cave and the trio soon catches up with and captures the mercenaries when the thieves stop at Anna's store for supplies.

Rock the Cradle
Airdate: Apr. 18, 1988
MacGyver barely escapes with his life when he dares to fly on Jack Dalton's airplane. The troubleshooter is reluctantly forced to hang out the bottom of the plane in order to fix the landing gear. Meanwhile, Katie, one of Jack's former girlfriends, has her own troubles. Katie, who is working as a waitress at the Officer's Club bar, is forced on the run when she sees her current boyfriend Carlo killed for stealing counterfeit money and plates from the bars owners. Katie then leaves her baby in Jack Dalton's hanger hoping that Jack will care for the child. Jack and MacGyver return to Jack's hanger and find Katie's baby, a note identifying the boy as Jack's son, and the counterfeit money and plates. After an unsuccessful attempt to locate Katie at The Officer's Club, Jack uses his plane to send a "sky" message to Katie. Katie responds and gives MacGyver and Jack the information they need to arrest the bar's crooked owners. As the episode ends, Katie reveals that she had claimed her son was Jack's baby in order to get Jack to care for the baby while actually the young child is Carlo's son. MacGyver and Jack will still give Katie some help with the baby.

The Endangered
Airdate: May 2, 1988
After a mission whereby MacGyver only survived an incident in a bar out of pure luck, the troubleshooter decides to reconsider his life while taking a vacation at Chinook National Park. MacGyver is visiting his former college girlfriend Karen Miller, who is a ranger at the park. MacGyver had drawn away from her when she became to serious, but now he wants to revisit the relationship. However, MacGyver learns that Karen is involved with another ranger named Sam. He regrets his visit and is ready to leave when he sees a couple of poachers selling illegal meat to a local restaurant. MacGyver follows the poachers and meets up with Karen in the woods. The poachers see their pursuers and Karen is shot. MacGyver begins to set traps for the poachers in order to buy time until help can arrive. The other rangers arrive, provide Karen with medical attention, and arrest the poachers. MacGyver returns home leaving Karen with Sam.

Murderer's Sky

Phoenix is called in to investigate when a hostile takeover of a company leads to a bombing that almost kills Adam Chen, the company's president. Since Chen is seriously injured, MacGyver locates, Luke Chen, the president's grandson and heir. MacGyver and Luke are attacked but survive with the help of Luke's martial arts skills. The Phoenix employees soon learn that Raymond, the company's Vice President, is involved when they investigate the background of Wayne, the man who tried to kill Luke. Adam Chen dies and Luke realizes that his grandfather had been poisoned. Luke and MacGyver are soon kidnapped by the Chinese cartel and ordered to sign over the company. MacGyver uses his ingenuity and frees himself and Luke. Luke takes over as President of the company with a little help from the Phoenix Foundation.
