As
the second season opens, MacGyver is now working
as a "troubleshooter" with the Phoenix Foundation.
For his first Phoenix assignment, MacGyver and
Peter Thornton, Phoenix's new Director of Operation,
are testing the security at the Strategic Research
Development Administration (STRADA). MacGyver
successfully bypasses the underground facilities
security and meets up with Dr. Jill Ludlam,
the system's designer. Dr. Ludlam attempts to
turn off the security system but, unfortunately,
the fifth generation computer system (known
as SANDY), does not realize that the exercise
was a test. MacGyver and Dr. Ludlam are then
forced to evade laser beams and robot drones
as SANDY attempts to eliminate the "intruders."
Using his ingenuity, MacGyver soon shorts out
SANDY and proceeds with Dr. Ludlam to the exhaust
fan maintenance shaft. Pete, guessing that MacGyver
would try to exit through the shaft, shuts down
the exhaust system thereby allowing MacGyver
and Dr. Ludlam to escape.

WThe
Eraser (airdate: Sept. 29, 1986). MacGyver is
assigned to locate Michael Simmons, a man on
the run from a couple of East Germans that he
cheated. Meanwhile, Jimmy "The Eraser" Kendall,
a hit man for the mob, has just been released
from prison. Jimmy, who has come to regret his
"career," decides that he wants to retire. However,
mob boss "Papa Chuck" Banning "insists" that
Jimmy perform one more job: locate and eliminate
a man that cheated the mob: Simmons. MacGyver
starts his search for Simmons and is joined
by Jimmy who claims that he is the father of
Simmons. Jimmy further explains that he has
not seen Simmons, his son, in years. MacGyver
soon locates Simmons and calls Jimmy with their
location. MacGyver then tells Simmons that his
father is on his way but Simmons is somewhat
confused as his father is dead. Realizing that
Jimmy is not who he claims to be, MacGyver and
Simmons make a run for it. Jimmy arrives and
chases them into a deserted warehouse. MacGyver
appeals to Kendall's humanity and Jimmy responds
by deciding not to kill Simmons. Unfortunately,
Ralph, one of Banning's men, overhears Jimmy.
A distraught Banning then puts out a contract
on the former "Eraser." MacGyver, wanting to
help Jimmy go straight, locates the ex-pitman
at a baseball field. (Jimmy had told MacGyver
about his love for baseball.) Banning's men,
also aware of Jimmy's love for the game, soon
arrive and chase MacGyver and Jimmy into a warehouse.
MacGyver utilizes items found in the warehouse
to save Jimmy's life while at the same time
letting the criminals believe that they have
fulfilled their contract. As the episode ends,
Jimmy is given a new identity and a Job with
a minor league baseball team.

After
Phoenix employee Kelly Sutton loses his life
savings in a swindle pulled by James Crowe,
MacGyver and Pete decide to take the matter
into their own hands and to "swindle" the swindler.
Pete, posing as a crooked police officer, and
MacGyver head to the race track. Standing in
front of Crowe, they discuss a major money making
deal. Crowe, taking the bait, asks to be cut
in on the deal. Meanwhile, Joanne Remmings,
an enthusiastic Phoenix employee with an expertise
in "bunko" scams, has decided that she also
wants to help. She follows MacGyver and helps
to present the plan to Crowe. Crowe is further
convinced that Pete is "crooked" when he witnesses
a "fake" drug deal with a disguised Kelly. Pete
and MacGyver then lay out the plan for Crowe:
Pete will bring money, supposedly taken in a
drug bust, into the police evidence room. Once
inside, they will be able to steal the drugs.
Since Crowe's money is being used for the operation,
Joanne is taken as a hostage. Crowe, who goes
with Pete into the police station, is knocked
out and left in the evidence room. MacGyver
then disguises himself as Crowe and draws Crowe's
men out into the open. Joanne is freed and Crowe's
money is kept in order to repay the people that
were swindled. Crowe and his men are arrested.
Note: Joanne is impressed how MacGyver uses
everyday items to create whatever he needs ("MacGyverisms").
In an interesting scene, she hands MacGyver
her glasses, hair pins, and shirt buttons thinking
that he needs the items for a "MacGyverism."
Actually, MacGyver was just trying to make her
more attractive.

MacGyver flies out to the wilderness to supervise
a group of troublesome street kids as part of
a Phoenix project. While returning from the
trip, the pilot has a heart attack and the plane
crashes into the wilderness. The next morning,
Tommy, one of the four stranded kids, runs off.
MacGyver follows and rescues him from a mountain
lion. Back at the camp, troubled teen Luther,
who believes that street gang leader Ramon killed
his brother, chases after the youth with the
intention of getting revenge. When Ramon doubles
over in pain, Luther gains the upper hand. However,
MacGyver arrives and convinces Luther not to
murder Ramon. Realizing that Ramon has internal
injuries, MacGyver begins to work on repairing
the plane. Tommy and Gina, the fourth teen,
help MacGyver but Luther refuses. Luther then
follows MacGyver's advice, talks to Ramon, and
learns that the gang leader did not kill his
brother. (Ramon had let people believe that
he was the killer in order to gain respect.)
Luther soon joins in and helps the kids create
a mud field for the damaged plane to lift off
from. MacGyver successfully gets the plane off
the ground and takes Ramon to the hospital in
time.

MacGyver
arrives home at his apartment (now located over
a hardware store) only to find all of his belongings
missing. Following clues left behind, MacGyver
is led to his old friend Jack Dalton. Jack,
who has a habit of involving MacGyver in troublesome
situations, informs his friend that he needs
help in rescuing a botanist that was captured
while transporting orchids from a Central American
country. MacGyver finally agrees to help after
learning that Jack (whose eye would twitch if
he was lying) is dying. Once in Central America,
Jack tells MacGyver that he discovered that
the orchids contain heroin belonging to a drug
dealer named Sonny and a crooked cop named Antunnez.
Jack kept the shipment when he found out but,
in retaliation, Antunnez kidnapped the botanist,
who MacGyver soon learns is his old friend "Mike"
Foster. Jack then lets himself be captured so
that MacGyver can follow him to Mike. MacGyver
breaks into the monastery that Jack has been
taken to and frees his friends. They head back
to the landing site only to discover that Antunnez's
men have captured the plane. The trio, utilizing
MacGyver-made traps, stop Sonny. Unfortunately,
Antunnez eludes the traps and captures MacGyver
and his friends. Finally, Jack saves MacGyver
and Mike by agreeing to fly Antunnez and the
drugs out of the country. Back in the United
States, MacGyver hears that Antunnez was captured
after Jumping out of a smoking plane. Despite
the fact that MacGyver knew that Jack was flying
with an empty fuel tank, he still feels inside
that it may have been a trick and that Jack
survived.

MacGyver is at Dead Horse Point Park as part
of a Phoenix project to help the endangered
Golden eagle. His assignment is to locate an
eagle's nest and to insure its survival. Utilizing
a hang glider, MacGyver is following a male
and female eagle back to their nest when he
observes a man in a helicopter shoot the female
eagle. While MacGyver glides to the downed eagle,
the male eagle runs into the helicopter and
then falls to the top of a nearby mountain.
Down on the ground, MacGyver, along with the
help of Susan Cooper and her son Darin, tries
to treat the injured female eagle. The next
day, MacGyver ascends the mountain in order
to rescue the male eagle. Curry and Ghant, the
helicopter pilots, arrive at Susan's home and
kidnap her and her son in order to eliminate
any witnesses to their crime. (Besides their
concern over the $5,000 fine, they also fear
that any investigation will turn up the fact
that Ghent is an escaped convict.) MacGyver
soon recovers the bird and returns to Susan's
house. Realizing that the family has been taken
hostage, he utilizes items found in Susan's
shed and captures the two pilots. Although the
female eagle has died during the ordeal, the
male survives. MacGyver follows the surviving
eagle back to its nest and successfully retrieves
and hatches the eagles' eggs.

The
Phoenix Foundation has developed a computer
circuit that has a dual purpose: First of all,
it is an integral part of the Moloch Missile
guidance system and, secondly, the circuit is
part of a device that will allow deaf children
to hear. Assisting MacGyver on the project is
Carrie Linden, a deaf teacher at the Hansen
School for the Deaf. Carrie informs her friend
of a recent dream that ended with MacGyver's
death. MacGyver is dubious until he is almost
hit by a lightning bolt detailed van. Since
there was a lightning bolt in Carrie's dream,
MacGyver and Pete decide to have her speak to
a Phoenix Foundation dream specialist. Meanwhile,
former CIA agent David Crane has been hired
to steal the Moloch Missile. Realizing that
it is easier to steal components, Crane has
begun his theft by stealing parts of the missile
in South Carolina and in Indiana. Crane's next
stop is the Phoenix test site. Carrie, who soon
arrives at the test site, recognizes Crane from
her dream. Crane panics and escapes. In the
hopes of catching Crane, MacGyver and Carrie
investigate the next part of her dream. Unfortunately,
in the process, Carrie is kidnapped. MacGyver
follows Crane back to the former agent's hideout
and creates a distraction. Crane is captured,
Carrie is freed and the missile is recovered.
Carrie notes how everything she dreamt came
true except for MacGyver's death.

while running arms in Afghanistan, contacts
MacGyver and asks him to come to a motel in
Mesa. Syndicate hit men arrive and, before MacGyver
can find out what is happening, Sullivan is
killed. Before dying, however, he drops a bag
full of counterfeit money into the car of Guy
and June Roberts. MacGyver is soon heading out
of town but his car breaks down. However, Guy,
a former actor, stops and gives the Phoenix
troubleshooter a ride. Back at the motel, Michael
Talbot, the man Sullivan stole the money from,
has discovered that the Roberts have his money
(after Guy pays for his check with one of the
bogus bills). Talbot and his men soon catch
up with the Roberts and it is only MacGyver's
ingenuity that stops the pursuers' car. Talbot
begins to repair his car as do the Robert since,
unfortunately, their car was also damaged. MacGyver
comes across the money in the car and realizes
that it is counterfeit. He then lures Talbot

It is December 14, 1987, the 25th anniversary
of the car accident that killed MacGyver's father
James and his grandmother Celia. Harry Jackson,
MacGyver's grandfather (last seen in the first
season episode "Target MacGyver") has come to
California to spend the day with his grandson.
Grandfather and grandson are all set to go to
a hockey game when MacGyver realizes that they
need to get the tickets from the Phoenix Foundation.
Entering the Foundation, MacGyver finds it strange
when a guard lets them into the building without
following the normal security procedures. MacGyver's
suspicions are correct as the guard is actually
a member of a terrorist outfit. Victoria James,
who has been hired by the terrorists, has already
entered the building and is planning on detonating
a bomb. The terrorists soon realize that their
cover is blown and they lock MacGyver and Harry
in a room filled with gas. MacGyver escapes
but Harry, who is having difficulty breathing,
needs to rest and is captured. Victoria then
makes an announcement over the intercom system:
Harry is tied up in a room with a bomb. MacGyver
begins searching for the bomb and is attacked
by Victoria. In her haste to kill him, she makes
a poor jump and goes out the window to her death.
Harry, although he is tied up, manages to tap
his floor number into a phone connected to the
intercom system. MacGyver locates his grandfather
and disarms the bomb.
