Premise:
21 Jump Street chronicled the adventures of undercover police officers who fought crime in local high schools and colleges Operating out of a former chapel located at the corner of Jump Street, the youthful looking officers (Hanson, Hoffs, Penhall, and Ioki) initially reported to Captain Jenko and later to the more by-the-book Captain Fuller. During the third season, fearing that they might lose Johnny Depp, the producers added Richard Grieco to the cast as Officer Dennis Booker. (When Depp returned for a fourth season, Grieco was spun off into the short-lived Booker series.) Rounding out the cast during the first four years were maintenance Engineer Sal "Blowfish" Banducci, Jackie Garrett and Amy Pearson (two of Hanson's romantic interests), and Dorothy Pezzino (Penhall's live-in girlfriend). When the show moved from the FOX network to first-run syndication in the last season, McCann and Joey Penhall (Doug's brother) were added to the cast. (Before the show was cancelled by FOX, the producers had planned to add the characters of Garrett and Rocky. However, when the show turned up in syndication, these characters were eliminated.) Towards the end of the fourth season, Doug added a new member to his family when he agreed to care for Clavo, the El Salvadoran son of his sister-in-law. Also of interest is the fact that most of the episodes included Public Service Announcements telling teens where to turn should they find themselves facing the types of problems portrayed in the episodes.
